Re: Boston University Offseason Thread 2: Moving Forward by Booting Forwards

From NHL.com coverage of yesterday's USA-Sweden game

Charlie Coyle and Beau Bennett haven't played against the same high-caliber opposition as some of their U.S. teammates. In their first big-time international match, however, both came through with flying colors.

Coyle had a goal, dominated in the faceoff circle and showed his great skating ability, and Bennett had a pair of assists as the U.S. jumped to a 4-0 lead in the game's first four minutes and held on for a 6-3 victory against Sweden in an exhibition game during USA Hockey's National Junior Evaluation Camp.

"I thought they both did a very good job," U.S. coach Keith Allain said. "Charlie was on the power play, he killed penalties. Beau did a good job for us on the power play. They did what we hoped they would do. … They played well. It was a great game and they were good players in a great game."

Hmm. Strong game. Dominating. Great Skating ability. Well, unless Sweden brought a team of mediocre midgets, it appears Coyle can stand out when he's not facing those mediocre EJHL kids he's been overpowering. :-)

Seriously, I don't know much about the Swedish team, except that D-Adam Larssen is projected as a top 3-- and #1 in some quarters-- draft choice next June. Swedish U20s will play BU at HAA on Nov. 3.

The Dubuque (Iowa) Fighting Saints of the USHL

Vinny did skate at DBQs prospects camp, but did not appear on the 23 man roster that they submitted (teams are allowed 25 heading into the fall camp). My guess is that Monty and company are doing their due diligence on him as to what they can expect off the ice....i.e. his ongoing "attitude adjustment". He is expected to compete for a spot come camp time.

Talking about the three centers at Jr. Nat'l Team eval camp (Coyle, Nelson, Bjustad), USA Hockey exec. director Jim Johannson said: "If the three centermen are the real deal, and they have been so far, we should have a formidable group." USA TODAY

Keith Allain gave Coyle high marks for his play at center, too. So does he get pencilled in as the 3rd center for BU?

Connolly Trivino Chiasson
Nieto Megan Pereira
Gaudet Coyle Gilroy
Glass Gill Santana
Courtnall ??? Cisse

or perhaps 2nd center?

Connolly Trivino Chiasson
Megan Coyle Pereira
Nieto Gaudet Gilroy

I won't believe it until we have confirmation from the only reliable source, hokydad.

Nov.3 exhibition vs. Sweden U20s is cancelled due to a scheduling conflict.
Pre-season with Univ. of Toronto is the only exhibition.

Re: Boston University Offseason Thread 2: Moving Forward by Booting Forwards

Bah. I was looking forward to that one.

Wonder how they will deal with refunds...

Coyle on his experiences at Jr. Nat'l team evaluation camp

Coyle - "I thought I was just going to come to camp and be a grinder. I didnt expect to put anything on the board or anything. So, those two goals boosted my confidence. It let me know that I can play with these guys and that I can be a big part of this. Knowing that I could score and contribute definitely helped me out a little bit."
More

Coyle may be related to Amonte, but apparently has studied at the Drury School of Humility. ;)

Re: Boston University Offseason Thread 2: Moving Forward by Booting Forwards

i got an email from the ticket office. for those of us paying on the '2 pmt' plan, our 2nd pmt will be less because of the cancellation.

Re: Boston University Offseason Thread 2: Moving Forward by Booting Forwards

That doesn't help those of us that paid in full.

I'd assume you'd get a choice of refund or credit to your account? maybe? who knows. They didn't even tell us how much less the payment would be.
