Nieto & Clendening selected for 2010 NHL RDO camp.

Along with DU's Nick Shore and RPI's Patrick Koudys, they were the only college players invited among 33 top candidates for the 2011 draft. Nice comments from NHL Central Scouting on Clendening.

Another Clendening story

Aren't Ambroz, Gibson, Hudon, Mayfield and Russo headed to college as well?

Please feel free to pass this on to anyone you think might be interested, even other threads (I decided 2 postings was max I could do w/o being obnoxious so am just putting here and in BC thread).

BU has issued its announcement of the 2010 recruit class. Five forwards and three defenseman. Cisse is in the class, as FL reported earlier. The new name here is forward Matt Ronan, younger brother of Dan Ronan and a cousin of Ed Ronan. He played for Belmont Hill and then the Valley Jr. Warriors. With Ronan and Cisse aboard, BU has 15 forwards on the roster, along with 8 Ds and 3 goalies.

Coyle is wearing his cousin, Tony Amonte's #3. Bonino's #13 goes to Noonan.

Two of Parker's quotes really stood out to me. The first is that he thinks Nieto can be a 50-point guy. I assume that doesn't necessarily mean this season, but that's a high expectation nonetheless. Based on the one game I saw, I agree with Parker, but we'll see how Nieto adjusts to HE defenses.

The second is that he said Gill might center a freshman line. I take this as a sign that there will be a freshman line, perhaps right off the bat. Interesting to see if it'll be with Nieto and Coyle as the wings or if Cisse will sneak in there with either Neito or Coyle being on a higher line.

If Nieto and Coyle aren't good enough to crack the top two lines by Jan 1, BU's in deep water.

I agree. I was just saying that because I've found that when Parker says he "might" do something with the lines or he's "thinking about" doing something with the lines, it usually means he's gonna try it sooner or later.

Re: Boston University Offseason Thread 2: Moving Forward by Booting Forwards

I'd expect one of them, probably Coyle to be on the top two lines, from the get-go, especially if he's playing center. Trivino, Connolly, Chiasson, Megan and Pereira also should be on the top lines. Parker had said at the end of last season that Pereira would be there.

So initially perhaps:
Connolly Trivino Chiasson (with Gaudet filling for Trivino)
Megan Coyle Pereira

If you follow with a freshman line of Nieto, Gill and Cisse, then Glass, Gilroy and Gaudet would be leading candidates for the fourth line. I don't see that happening, especially Gaudet, who proved he can skate and finish. Instead of an all-freshman line:

Nieto Gill Gaudet
Glass Gilroy Santana

Judging from Parker's comments on Nieto and Clendening, he's not on the same page with a certain all-over-the-board poster.

Did anyone else notice that both Gaudet and Ruikka are listed as sophomores on the roster?

A. Who said the hypothetical freshman line would have to be the 3rd or 4th line come January?;)

B. Lawrence-Higgins-Yip were a frosh 3rd line on a team where the top 3 lines all averaged roughly equivalent ice time during second semester, in which case the order that they hop over the boards after the opening faceoff is irrelevant.

Pretty sure Parker mentioned last year that both of them redshirted their 08-09 season, so technically they do have sophomore standing from an NCAA standpoint.

Re: Boston University Offseason Thread 2: Moving Forward by Booting Forwards

I'm hearing all of last year's freshmen will be back too after hearing one may have been wavering over the summer.

Re: Boston University Offseason Thread 2: Moving Forward by Booting Forwards

And the waverer was?

From what I heard, Courtnall. But that was through the grapevine and not confirmed by anyone.

If it was him, glad he's back. His solid training camp with the Blackhawks could be a big boost for him going into this season.

Where exactly would he have been thinking of going?

Where exactly would he have been thinking of going?

Probably either another school or juniors. My guess is that playing time was/is the main concern, especially considering he's an NHL draft pick.
