Re: Boston University Offseason Thread 2: Moving Forward by Booting Forwards

Against players his own age, yes. Older players not yet.
Hope to be wrong but that is what was said after San Jose camp as well.

Will adjust and not only use strength etc to win battles.

Usually younger players have trouble adapting to playing against older guys in NCAA when size and strength become involved, and obviously Coyle's got an advantage there. Really speed would be the only issue, but he's going up against that in WJC camp I would think.

Re: Boston University Offseason Thread 2: Moving Forward by Booting Forwards

Exactly. Coyle for now gets away with over powering players, just like he did in EJ. Struggled in San Jose's camp.
Wouldnt be surprised if he adapted quick to hockey east. hopefully so. Showed he is better than Nieto for sure up there.

Longtime Boston University men's hockey coach Jack Parker is recovering from heart bypass surgery.

Mike Lynch, BU's assistant vice president and director of athletics, confirmed the operation, which took place July 23, and said in a statement that the 65-year-old Parker is expected to be completely healthy for the start of the 2010-11 season, which will be his 38th behind the bench.

"The entire BU community wishes Jack a speedy recovery and respects his privacy during this time,'' said Lynch. "We look forward to seeing him lead the Terriers on the ice this fall.''

Winners of the 2009 NCAA championship, BU finished last season with an overall record of 18-17-3 (13-12-2 in Hockey East) and lost to Maine in the semifinals of the Hockey East tournament. The Terriers open the 2010-11 campaign in St. Louis against Wisconsin in the annual IceBreaker Tournament, which begins Oct. 8.

Yikes. Glad to see he is ok. Can't mess with the ticker.

Watching shattenkirk and a whole bunch of other pros play pickup right now- they happen to be in the ice slot before my adult league game tonight.

Get well soon Coach!!

Re: Boston University Offseason Thread 2: Moving Forward by Booting Forwards

All the best to jack, hope he has a speedy recovery.

Re: Boston University Offseason Thread 2: Moving Forward by Booting Forwards

It would need to be at least a quintuple bypass to slow Jack down. He'll be fine.

More seriously, I hope Jack recovers quickly and feels great again soon. A truly incredible man and a person I've been lucky enough to meet and talk hockey with who I (and it seems, all of us) want to be with us for many more years.

Re: Boston University Offseason Thread 2: Moving Forward by Booting Forwards

In looking at Parker's coaching record, I realize I know very little about the 83-86 years. It looks like John Cullen's arrive helped take the team from 18 to 28 wins in one year. I never saw Peter Marshall play, but know he was a contributor. Cullen, Lowney, and Donatelli were seniors my freshman year. Who were the other keys to the success of those years? Did we come close to the FF in any of them?

Cleon Daskalakis, goaltender in '82-'83 and '83-'84, was the most important player on the team, in my opinion.

84 team lost a home two-game-total-goals NCAA first round to Jerry's BGSU team that went to the final four and won the title.

That second night was one of the 3 or 4 worst nights in BU hockey history; again, one man's opinion.

What was it? A four goal lead going into that 2nd night? *shudder*

The 1986 team was the #1 seed in the East. Had The Gophers at home for two. Peter Marshall broke his leg in game one and that was the end of that. :( And defkit: Describing Peter Marshall as a "contributor" isn't the half of it. The man won the spirit award four times. He was the ultimate "balls-to-the-wall" player. And a great guy to boot.

It was a 3-goal lead. 8-5? 6-3? BGSU went out to a 4-0 lead in game 2, BU pulls the goalie in the third to score and "tie" the series up. Game goes into OT and BGSU scores. Fave memory of that series was the banner "Hey BGSU - you have the Pikul and you have the Roll - where's the beef?" Clever. *sigh*

I saw Cleon at the Red Sox game last night. He was in the box next to me, hanging with Milan Lucic (sp?).

Marshall was a classic example of a player whose value far exceeded his statistics. You had to watch him on a game-by-game basis to appreciate his contributions.

Re: Boston University Offseason Thread 2: Moving Forward by Booting Forwards

Onto another classic example--- any idea on where/if Vincent is playing in 10-11?
