Re: World Soccer XXI: Don't Tread on the Red, White, and Blue

WOW.

The Liverpool striker Luis Suárez has been banned for eight matches and fined £40,000 after being found guilty of misconduct, regarding "using insulting words towards" Patrice Evra of Manchester United.

The allegations centred around an incident during a Premier League fixture between Liverpool and Manchester United at Anfield on 15 October, during which Evra claimed Suárez racially abused him "at least 10 times".

8 matches! Was not expecting that. I have no problem with big suspensions for racism (duh), but the issue seemed too gray to me.

Agreed it seems excessive and the whole thing is a big gray area where sometimes people get penalized like this and other times nothing happens.

I was shocked...but that means 8 matches of not having to watching that diving, cheating little knob.

See, for example, John Terry.

Edit to add: although I do think it's funny that he's facing criminal charges. I mean, he had an affair with his teammate's girlfriend, he taunted American tourists after 9/11, he parks in handicapped spaces, he's a racist, his mother is a shoplifter... John Terry is just a classy individual.

If by funny you mean kind of terrifying...

What he (allegedly) said is bad of course, but it still makes me glad we have the 1st Amendment over here.

Oh, yeah, I think it's pretty strange that it's illegal over there in the UK, I just think it's funny *because it's John Terry*.

Re: World Soccer XXI: Don't Tread on the Red, White, and Blue

Well that was brutal. :o

I don't care what you say. Manchester United has the best fight song. (Fans of Euro Trip will get the joke.)

This is a red card?

If a drunk guy runs onto the pitch and attacks you during the game, you're supposed to...what? Let him hit you?

Let's ask Monica Seles how that works out.

Following the rulebook, the referee was 100% correct in issuing the card. Common sense wise, yeah. Although I do think he may have kicked him once more than necessary.

Seems to me that FIFA really would not be well-placed to be picking a fight with Switzerland.

To wit: Sion has filed a criminal complaint against the executive committee of FIFA, alleging extortion. :D

So over/under 3 weeks until Henry starts asking for an extension to his loan?
