Re: World Cup Soccer XVII: There can only be ONE!!!11!!!

I just noticed that Luxembourg have a player named Daniel Alves de la Mota. I'm guessing he's not going to make anyone forget the other Daniel Alves anytime soon.

JerryWorld is almost definitely 70 yards wide (8 for the goal, 36 for the penalty area, 11 from each corner plus 2 yards between each optional mark and the penalty area). The Linc is a bit harder to judge but looks 70 as well.

If you sign enough 20 year olds for between six and 10 million quid a few have to become stars, right?

Re: World Cup Soccer XVII: There can only be ONE!!!11!!!

NUFC back in the premiership, and my new jersey comes today!!! all ready for the opener vs man u!!!:D :D

Re: World Cup Soccer XVII: There can only be ONE!!!11!!!

Seriously, goal line technology NOW.

At least your man Gerrard showed a little bit of what he can do though.

In other news, ESPN signs a deal with FSC to show the 7:45 EST Saturday EPL games, along with the weekday 3:00 kickoffs as well. I think that deal was pretty much the same as last year. The big news though is that this new deal includes ESPN3.com streaming as well. Pretty cool.

He's married to an American. Why does he have to wait 7 years to get citizenship?

My wife and I married in 1997 and it took nearly 2 years - which I realize is a far cry from 7, but since 9/11 iirc it's become much more difficult to become a citizen, even when marrying one.

There's unconfirmed (surprise!) reports that the USSF has chosen not to retain Bob Bradley as coach of the USMNT. They talked about it during the Red Bull-Canuck FC game and I saw a couple of tweets about it.

To be expected.

If we don't plan on having him around through Brazil '14, there's no sense in not getting a jump start on a new coach as soon as we can.

Especially since its not like Jurgen Klinsmann is going to be free forever.

Quickly debunked by more "official" sources like Soccer By Ives. I would hope we'll see some hard news soon though.

Re: World Cup Soccer XVII: There can only be ONE!!!11!!!

Quote from Red Bulls postgame: "In the words of the U.S. Soccer official tonight, 100% not true that any decision has been made for Bob Bradley to step aside as US National Team coach."

Of course, doesn't mean he won't eventually be on his way out, just means that it hasn't been decided yet.

Good win for the Red Bulls, by the way.

Are there other candidates besides Klinsmann for the USMNT job? Anyone that people on the board like?

Re: World Cup Soccer XVII: There can only be ONE!!!11!!!

Wisecrack I wish I could take credit for coming up with myself:

Saw that Manchester United have signed Bebe. At least while Mame is away at Blackburn, Nani can look after the Bebe!

Does he have any kids? I so want to make a Bebe's Kids joke. :D

Longshot, but maybe Martin O'Neill would like the job? Dom Kinnear of the Houston Dynamo is a name likely to come up, but I sure hope he doesn't get serious consideration.

Also, Maradona's available.:D

Re: World Cup Soccer XVII: There can only be ONE!!!11!!!

The same sources saying that Bradley is done also claim that the USSF is talking with Klinsmann again.

Personally, I hope it falls through again, because I think we can and should do better.

Ok, I'll bite. Who do you suggest we go after that is a better candidate than Klinsmann?

I'd be happier with Schmid, Kinnear, or Nicol. I'm not convinced there's interest from non-MLS foreigners at a price range USSF can afford, but I'm also a lot less hung up on the OMG foreign coach! thing than the inferiority complex crowd.

Re: World Cup Soccer XVII: There can only be ONE!!!11!!!

Maybe the USSF is waiting a little while to see if BB gets another coaching gig, so they don't have to fire him publically.
