Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread
Quote from Norm in the game recap.
At the very least, I will give Norm this...as much as it will be debated, he acknowledges and stands by his controversial decision to pull Carr. As Will said, it's done and time to move forward. At least Bazin "appears" to have in the media.
Wow, this one still hurts this morning. But I have to remind myself that the two losses against NU and UConn are the only real blemishes to the first half of this season, especially considering last year.
I really don't consider this loss a blemish on the schedule (like a UConn) as I really couldn't have foreseen Lowell sweeping NU this season, especially with two games at Matthews Arena. Like UNH, Lowell still has a chance to win the season series against NU. Losing the season series would be viewed as a blemish if Lowell is not able to take at least three of the four points against the Huskies. As some have said, they were rightfully concerned about not having Kamrass and Furlong along with the playing the night before in an emotional game against BC. While it had a clear impact, I was a bit surprised at how flat the River Hawks looked for a majority of the game. What stings is that the River Hawks had a chance to salvage a game where they clearly had no business being in contention (courtesy of Carr) and a big gamble by the coach backfired miserably.
I would have loved to see this team go into the break at 11-4, in third place in HE (MC would have had a game in hand). I do feel though that going into the break with this loss is going to sting a bit and hopefully make them come out for the second half ****ed off. At least that's my hope.
Two weeks ago I mentioned that if the River Hawks were to take four points in the last four games that would be a very good way to end the first semester. Well, you can make the argument that they were one period away from taking all eight points so I can't really complain about the overall performance. Naturally, I would have love to see the Hawks grab points last night, but they are still a team that can be considered serious contender for a home ice spot. Three games remaining against the "Big Four", two of which will be at home; UVM three times, UMA two times. There some points on the table for the River Hawks to grab. From now until January 20th, the River Hawks play only three meaningful games, the UConn tourney and @UVM. The UVM series starts a stretch of four of five on the road against non-Big Four teams that may be the biggest test for this young squad. If they can come out of that stretch with a winning record going into a three-week, six-game homestand, we may really like where the River Hawks could be in mid-February.
