Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

I really don't consider this loss a blemish on the schedule (like a UConn) as I really couldn't have foreseen Lowell sweeping NU this season, especially with two games at Matthews Arena.
The only way I consider this a blemish is because watching that game, if Lowell had played it like they have the past few games, they win this. Same with UConn.
I didn't get the pulling the goalie thing but to 'crucify him' for something like that after the last few months of amazing turnaround- can't get into the spirit of that at all.
I'm not sure who's crucifying here ...

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

Wow, this one still hurts this morning. But I have to remind myself that the two losses against NU and UConn are the only real blemishes to the first half of this season, especially considering last year.

I would have loved to see this team go into the break at 11-4, in third place in HE (MC would have had a game in hand). I do feel though that going into the break with this loss is going to sting a bit and hopefully make them come out for the second half ****ed off. At least that's my hope.

Not to be a homer but NU handed games to Merrimack and BC at home and lost both in OT...lost to BC by a goal with three seconds left at Conte, hammered Michigan on the road, swept Notre Dame on the road, smacked Providence who swept Merrimack, on the road...it's a little funny to consider us a "blemish" team at this point. We may fall off a cliff in the second half or keep it going, who knows...but certainly a loss at Matthews is no blemish with the way NU is skating now.

I'll be there. Looked up tickets on UConn's site: $6 for reserved, $3-5 for GA. I don't expect it to be a problem to get them the day of the game.

uh... no... not at all... i'm out do an incident a few months back because i wasn't sure where I'd be at this point. reserved is one side of the rink (with the benches)... GA is the side with the penalty boxes. Far side is the away goalie, nearside home.

Big thing (and Scott, I don't know if you've built a rapport w/ the coach or not)... UConn's glass, at least in the past, is ricochet prone due to the metal between the panes of glass. Pucks have been known to wrap around poorly and deflect out into the open. Just something to be aware of if they still have the glass like that. Other than that, much like merrimack... 2K seating... keep attention on the game or else you may come out with a crooked smile.

Coach has been great, but this move was a mistake, and I don't love that he's standing by it. Hindsight is always 50/50, but you don't want to cost your team a chance. With the time left in the game, I just think it was a bad move. And even if you are going to do it, do you pull him off the TO and not wait till you win the draw?

I think with the way the game was going he had to take that chance.

The Hawks won the face off and had control of the puck so Carr would have been heading to or already at the bench even if Norm waited. The problem was they proceeded to turn the puck over and then allowed Quailer to get a shot at the open net from his own zone. Like most I didn't like the move either, but the bad taste is starting to fade. Over all an unbelievable first half.

Good luck to the team in the classroom this week, take care of business.

+1. I didn't agree with the decision but after the "Blaise years" I respect a Coach who wants to be aggressive and isn't afraid to admit when he was wrong.

10-5-0 and sitting in 4th place in Hockey East. None of us saw that coming.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

I am thinking about going but I am not sure where it is and where to stay. Any help would be appreciated.

Options near campus are limited... there is a hotel near US6 at 195 near the Big Y... on campus however is booked-up/froze-out.

UConn... Mansfield, CT... no such thing as Storrs... Storrs is the family who donated the land on which UConn sits. From Lowell 495-290-90W-84-(32 optional)-195-N Eagleville Road-N Hillside Road-Right after gampel... stay on the road, soccer fields and hockey arena on the left.... otherwise 290-395-US44-195 or 290-395-US6-195.

There are several dunkin' donuts options even during break... IMO, the easiest is you stay on N Eagleville past the fire station and hang a right into a parking lot. Other than that, food may be sporadic... especially on campus... Route 195 has some options near campus. There is a McDs near US6. If I were going I'd poke in to see if Ted's is open... typical passable food and plentiful beer student watering hole... wouldn't mind going but its just not in the cards at this time (and wouldn't mind getting something from Ted's). Student union MAY be open... if so, the UConn restaurant on the lower floor does sell beer.

Alternatively, I'd see if the Nathan Hale Inn is open for food and drinks. Aside from that... really good chinese restaurant near campus... you either have fancy chinese or total crap... nowhere in between... the fancy place isn't that expensive (just not your standard greasy spoon fare) and is good for a group.... its in the middle of the three strip mall-like buildings. There is also a Friendly's.... though I've heard rumors of corporate bankruptcy. Wooster St. Pizza is in the mini-mall set-up on 195 near the edge of downtown storrs (near route 275)... no beer. The "famous" Willington Pizza is on Route 32 on your way to or from I-84.... they serve beer... of course I'd rather drink on campus and not worry about the driving.

Parking should be free unless bouncyball is playing... Park in I-Lot where the rink is... you can always walk back to campus. There is no real "parking near campus" unless you are the luckiest SOB on the planet.

I'm staying in Manchester, CT. I know of at least 2 Marriott properties there since a friend of mine works for Marriott and we're using his discount at one of them.

Any other rooms available? I might come down for the second night, since I do have to work on the Friday after the first set of games....

Right now it's Mom and I in one room and Doug in another. There's an open double bed in his room if you want to claim it (your share would be $11 per night). I can also ask him if he can get the Friends and Family rate on additional rooms beyond the two he's getting at the associate rate.

If you could ask about another room, I'd greatly appreciate it. Won't know till tomorrow if I can go, but just hoping... and for $22 a night, I can afford my own room! ;)
