Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

Of the guys that played last night, Buco and Suter are Norm's recruits. Zach Kamrass who was injured in a dirty hit by some UNH player at the end of the game last Friday night is also his recruit.
.
Thanks

long way to go...

of note...

10 wins is twice as much as last year (file under the book of "duh")

I believe, we're 6-3 vs. the "big 4" (Maine 2-0, UNH 2-1, BU 1-0, BC 1-2)... have we EVER had a non-losing record (regular season) as a member of HEA?

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

I'm just so **** proud of this program today. What a change up from just a few months ago where they couldn't win a game no matter what they did.

What a change from a year ago where on this very weekend, we were in Princeton, NJ for an embarassing weekend being outscored 12-4 over the two games and "discussing" the time for a coaching change here at Lowell. The coaching change did happen, and whatever the reasons may be, the River Hawks have responded. There's no question these guys favor the more stoic approach by Norm seen on the sideline then the "Type A/heart on sleeve approach" of a Blaise MacDonald.

And I won the signed UML blue sweater, so just a great night overall! :D

Hockey East is fixed!!! Rigged :D :p

Tonight scares me ... too easy to just overlook this game. I hope they don't. Way to go boys!

Indeed, there are two places in Hockey East that you really never know what you are going to get; Matthews is one; Schnieder is the other. Northeastern is a team that like most of the league swept us last year and really left a bad taste in our mouths simliar to last year's Amherst games. We'll see how they respond. A win tonight would guarantee that we would be no worse than a tie for third pending the BU game at Maine tonight. No matter what happens, the River Hawks will still have fourth place to them and I really don't think any Lowell fan after last year's debacle would have any problems with that over Winter Break.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

I'm hoping to see a large and lubed up Lowell crowd tonight at Matthews.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

Frustrating loss tonight, made much more so by a very questionable decision by Coach Bazin.

But at the end of the first semester, 10-5, 4th place in HE (with games in hand on pretty much everyone) ... not bad at all.

The 10-5 record is something what I would take in a minute after last year.

As for tonight, Doug Carr and Terence Wallin were the only two Lowell team members to show up and that includes the coach. Bazin is going to get crucified (and rightfully so) for the bonehead decision to pull Carr on the PP with 4:00 minutes to play in a one goal game. If there were 40 seconds left, OK, I could live with that, but 4:00 minutes. I'm sorry, that a critcal mistake by the coach that should almost never happen. Maybe he was trying to light a fire under them but the bottom line is that his players also own the majority of the blame because they didn't bring the same level energy has NU had for most of the game.

Overall, a first half that exceeded everyone's expectations, but not the way you wanted to see it end.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

Weird game. Questionable decision by coach (to say the least) and you wonder what could have been in an OT period. I didn't love Lowell's spot in this game with the BC game the night before, down two starting defensemen and NU coming in fresh at home. Credit the Huskies for having the jump, they played a good game. 10-5 at the break is better than I could have ever thought coming into the season. Hope we can get some players back and win big at the UConn tourney.

Northeastern is a big squad and they used their size tonight. Even though the Hawks couldn't match their jump it was still a winnable game. I look forward to the rematch.

Some lineup changes tonight, McCoy and Conderman were in for Thompson and Wright. Micki Mihailovich played in his first DI game for the injured Furlong.

Lets hope the boys don't dwell on this one, same with Bazin. Who knows why he took the risk but he did and it failed.

10-5 going into the break and with our win % at home, I will take that going to next semester with 9 of 16 at the Tsongas. Including 2 at home vs UVM and 2 at home vs MC.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

Quote from Norm in the game recap.

“I don’t regret that,” Bazin said. “I thought we failed to execute on what we had drawn up, and I probably had the wrong combination on the ice. But that happens. I don’t regret that decision one bit and I would take that same opportunity again if it presented itself.”

That's five wins in a row for the Huskies against the Hawks.

Wow, this one still hurts this morning. But I have to remind myself that the two losses against NU and UConn are the only real blemishes to the first half of this season, especially considering last year.

I would have loved to see this team go into the break at 11-4, in third place in HE (MC would have had a game in hand). I do feel though that going into the break with this loss is going to sting a bit and hopefully make them come out for the second half ****ed off. At least that's my hope.

At the very least, I will give Norm this...as much as it will be debated, he acknowledges and stands by his controversial decision to pull Carr. As Will said, it's done and time to move forward. At least Bazin "appears" to have in the media.

I really don't consider this loss a blemish on the schedule (like a UConn) as I really couldn't have foreseen Lowell sweeping NU this season, especially with two games at Matthews Arena. Like UNH, Lowell still has a chance to win the season series against NU. Losing the season series would be viewed as a blemish if Lowell is not able to take at least three of the four points against the Huskies. As some have said, they were rightfully concerned about not having Kamrass and Furlong along with the playing the night before in an emotional game against BC. While it had a clear impact, I was a bit surprised at how flat the River Hawks looked for a majority of the game. What stings is that the River Hawks had a chance to salvage a game where they clearly had no business being in contention (courtesy of Carr) and a big gamble by the coach backfired miserably.

Two weeks ago I mentioned that if the River Hawks were to take four points in the last four games that would be a very good way to end the first semester. Well, you can make the argument that they were one period away from taking all eight points so I can't really complain about the overall performance. Naturally, I would have love to see the Hawks grab points last night, but they are still a team that can be considered serious contender for a home ice spot. Three games remaining against the "Big Four", two of which will be at home; UVM three times, UMA two times. There some points on the table for the River Hawks to grab. From now until January 20th, the River Hawks play only three meaningful games, the UConn tourney and @UVM. The UVM series starts a stretch of four of five on the road against non-Big Four teams that may be the biggest test for this young squad. If they can come out of that stretch with a winning record going into a three-week, six-game homestand, we may really like where the River Hawks could be in mid-February.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

I don't see it as a blemish either. After watching them come out with guns blazing for the last few weeks it is easy to forget that they are young and don't have a wealth of experience on the ice. Experience is the thing that would have helped them come out with a bit more ...whatever.

I didn't get the pulling the goalie thing but to 'crucify him' for something like that after the last few months of amazing turnaround- can't get into the spirit of that at all. Maybe I am so old I am lulled into a more even keeled view. My thought was more that even not playing as well as they are capable of they were still in it. Last yr, playing as hard as they could they wouldn't have been. I chalk it up to growing pains and think to myself that if this is bad (competitive game but we lost), wait until they are more seasoned.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

Who's going to the UConn tourney?

I'll be there. Looked up tickets on UConn's site: $6 for reserved, $3-5 for GA. I don't expect it to be a problem to get them the day of the game.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

I'm heading down for the Friday game at UConn, hopefully it's the 7pm.. It's been a busy Fall, this'll be the first road game I make this season. Should be fun, hopefully they get a shot at a rematch with the Huskies.
