Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

If you could ask about another room, I'd greatly appreciate it. Won't know till tomorrow if I can go, but just hoping... and for $22 a night, I can afford my own room! ;)
The F&F rate is $65/night - the associate rate is $22/night and he's limited to 2 rooms on that rate. :P

Big troubles for BU's Corey Trivino.

He's like the third Corey, except he missed the '80s by just a bit. Pretty much has been a mess since he got to BU, although he was having a nice season for himself this year. If this is all true, what a screwup. Ruined his collegiate career and I'm sure it'll have an impact on his pro career.

Ooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhh.... See ya, stupid! :p

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

BTW, I have to admit, I was wondering what the point of the "Russian Red Stars" game was, and maybe it was looking at some potential recruits. According to this site ... yeah, it's not. All '90s and '91s.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

Almost to a player not one would pass clearinghouse. some dropped out of school in 5th and 6th grade

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

I believe, we're 6-3 vs. the "big 4" (Maine 2-0, UNH 2-1, BU 1-0, BC 1-2)... have we EVER had a non-losing record (regular season) as a member of HEA?

Lowell has had a winning record against the "Big 4" just 3 times since joining Hockey East:

1995-96: 8-6-1
1993-94: 8-6-2
1987-88: 7-6-1

(If you don't know what else those 3 seasons have in common, then you haven't been a Lowell fan for too long. ;) )

Lowell also finished .500 against the Big 4 in 2008-09 (6-6-1).

Unfortunately, there is no more 'big four' :(
Maine has been terrible for 4+ years, UNH is terrible now, it MIGHT be a 'big 2' at best.

oh, I love it when the top teams wallow when they're not 1-2-3-4

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

So there are rumors that BU is now also losing Charlie Coyle (Soph forward). Wow, what's going on over there.

BTW, I believe I'm in for the UConn tournament, well the final anyway.

absolutely understandable.

With the crap hitting the fan at BU, BC might be the only "big four" team left, and in a couple of years, with any consistency from Merrimack, you guys, PC, whoever, we might have a new Big Four, because things won't be looking up again at at least Maine and UNH anytime soon...

The thing is... 1) we've been through this cycle before... UMass is ascendant... oh, this time its NU... oh geez look how good vermont is... Lowell is scary this year... 2) there's always a big freakout when things aren't going so hot... I think the only one in serious trouble is Maine and that's because all their things are pulling in the wrong direction... Umile just seems hapless at this point and I'm sure some people are thinking maybe its time for a change for change sake but UNH isn't exactly falling apart as such.

Really though, until you spend some time in the 6-10 hole I don't think the whining is appropriate.

And Shawn, while you may not mean to be, that's what it comes out as to the teams outside the "big four."

I'll believe it when I see it in regards to the "big four" falling apart. I still see the recruit lists that those teams have and they're going to be stacked again, soon enough. Personally, I think the best thing for Hockey East is to have it competitive night in and night out, and so far this year, it's been that way. I like where Lowell is, and I really see a good future for this program, for the first time in years. Will it happen? Who knows. But I'm going to continue to enjoy this run as long as it lasts.

who's whining?
And we haven't been through this before, not since the establishment of 'the big four' which really didn't happen until the late 90's/early 2000's, since UNH wasn't much of a program until the mid/late 90's. We've been through some teams making some noise and poking into the top four of the league, but we haven't been through one of the programs (Maine) working on their 5th consecutive year of not making the NCAA's, and as much as it pains me to say, as a UNH fan, UNH is headed in that direction. I'm not even trying to take anything away from you guys (because, outside of UNH and UVM, there's no other team I like to see do well), you've had an incredible turnaround, just saying that the 'big four', at this point, is becoming more and more a thing of the past, which is good for the league, not so much for at least two, if not three, of those programs. Merry Christmas!

USHR is reporting that Coyle has left the BU program. The article also mentions there is some unhappiness among some players over the way Trivino was dismissed, specifically comments made by coach Parker. It should be an interesting second half for BU.

There's no question the loss of at least these two players are going to be a major turning point in the standings this season with us, them, and Merrimack. Mid-season firesales are never good for any reason (see UMass-Lowell, 2001-2002). Isn't Clendening at Juniors for the next three weeks. May be fortunate for them they only have two games in the next three or four weeks; one against Notre Dame 12/31 and Merrimack on 1/8.

From the Lowell Sun blog on 12/13 ...
Joe Caveney and Rob Badger have both left the team. Caveney showed promise, but his first two seasons were ruined by injuries. He had played only four games this season. Badger played 10 games as a freshman last year but had not appeared in a game this season.
More roster spots opening up. Doesn't leave this team with a lot of depth now, as they only have 26 players on the roster. Since we have no idea on the health status of Kamrass or Furlong now, you have to wonder if we'll be seeing a new player or two added in January to this team?

From what I was told, there will likely be a couple of new faces after the break.
