A lot of this will also depend on which two teams show up in Horseheads, NY Friday night !!That came to my mind too. Could take care of that problem by having SNC in over UMB and two QF games in the west. If the split is 8-3 then perhaps send Hobart to Adrian for a QF game and if Adrian wins, then only 2 flights.
I am thinking that, in the end, the NCAA will align the teams to, at least, allow for two West teams to get to MPLS....fly only two teams in and improve chances for a good gate...
Still believe that SNC needs to get the Auto Bid to be part of it...
Pardon my skepticism, but unless you can offer proof of your axiom, I'll stick to my premise that costs (potential flights and ticket sales) will always influence the field; either the weighting of a particular criterion for selection, or the seeding and pairing process. And ... since 2007, money has become an even larger factor. If three teams fly to Minnesota, I'll gladly admit you were right. For now, suspicion reigns. But ... since we never see the final ranking, which is even more critical this season - considering that "once ranked - always ranked" is gone - we'll never know for sure.Flights to the FF have NEVER been a factor in determining the field.

Makes for good forum fodder.

Offer proof of your premise that it does. He's cited examples. I'll add the women's tournament that has flown three teams west before and even flew a team east for a St. Norbert/Plattsburgh QF game once. I really don't think they worry about flights until after the field is selected.

Matthew West said, "To cross the boundary from interpretation and application (and) to delve into the world of speculation does a disservice to everyone." Unfortunately, that is what the committee does. They did it in 2011 by selecting Superior and in 2014 by omitting Trinity. It happens, so why shouldn't the common Joe speculate?
The simplest solution would be to eliminate Pool C. We 'd have an 8 team tournament (before realignment) and no arguments.
Got to have at larges. Excellent teams shouldn't be punished in a one-game tournament format by a hot goaltender stealing a game from them.
If we went to your scenario, there better be two or three-games series formats instituted.
Don't know if it happened, but there was talk of SNC and Point sharing a flight back from Maine last season. That would also be another way the NCAA could save money on flights. Bus two eastern teams to one airport (Manchester? Burlington? Boston?) and fly them to MN together...

I have no problem with eliminating Pool C. A hot goaltender can steal a game in the NCAA just as easily as in the Conference Tournament. If Johnson & Wales beats Oswego in an NCAA Play-in game, are they being punished because they ran into a hot goaltender in a one-game tournament format?
I would certainly agree that a 2 or 3 game series format would be ideal!
So why play a regular season? Let's just play a huge 70 team best of 3-series format for the entire year to crown a winner.
Play a regular season to determine who plays in the playoffs and who gets advatanges in those said playoffs. The regular season is used to determine playoff positioning/seeding. Take the SUNYAC for example... the regular season eliminates 3 teams from contention, gives 2 teams a 1st round bye in the playoffs, and is used to determine home-ice advantage in those playoffs.
