The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

Re: The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

WHOA!! Look at the underlying spreadsheet. They're including record v D-II teams (as a secondary criteria).

spwood -- I think they want Hobart in the tournament. If they stay E3, and barring gross upsets, they look in.

Hobart over Norwich? Hobart's ...---... is better than Norwich's. Is that what they used? But I think Norwich's SoS is a bit high on the NCAA chart (I think the D2 games snuck in there).

I think you are correct about wanting Hobart in. If you're going to put Hobart and Amherst ahead of Norwich for presumably SOS, then Plattsburgh should be ahead of UMASS-Boston.

Not sure how St. Thomas is ahead of River Falls either!?

They're trying to leverage Hobart against Stevens Point for the Pool B bid it would appear.

The smoke is clearing and the Ridder Ralph is about to come out of the warming hut and if he sees the rankings, we'll have 6 more weeks of hockey....

AND HERE THEY ARE
Code:
NK/REGION	SCHOOL	IN REGION RECORD	OVERALL RECORD
East
1	Trinity (Connecticut)	19-2-1	19-2-1
2	Oswego State	17-1-3	17-2-3
3	Hobart	18-6-0	18-6-0
4	Amherst	15-4-2	16-4-2
5	Norwich	17-3-1	21-3-1
6	Massachusetts Boston	17-3-1	21-3-1
7	Plattsburgh State	17-5-1	17-5-1
8	Nichols	13-3-3	16-3-3
West
1	Adrian	19-3-3	19-3-3
2	Wisconsin-Stevens Point	18-5-0	18-5-0
3	St. Norbert	17-5-2	17-5-2
4	Wisconsin-Eau Claire	15-6-2	15-6-2
5	St. Thomas (Minnesota)	14-5-4	14-5-4
6	Wisconsin-River Falls	18-4-1	18-4-1

Based on the rankings, Stevens Point gets Pool B (W2 > E3). Pool C is going to be a dogfight!

How highly you are regionally ranked has NOTHING to do with who gets the Pool B bid. Each Pool B/C slot is filled by comparing two teams for each one. The ranking determines who is first under discussion but the fact UWSP is W2 doesn't automatically put them in over Hobart at E3.

I would guess Hobart's SOS is significantly higher than Norwich, UMB and Plattsburgh. The Division III sport committees usually have strong numbers to back up what they do. I guess we'll find out if they post the numbers this week.

The secondary criteria do not get factored into SOS nor do the D2 games. In the past those are listed there for reference only.

Re: The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

Hobart at #3 is laughable. Obvious prop job for a Pool B. I don't see Amherst that high either. Mass-Boston and their cream puff schedule will be gone shortly. The two perennial contenders (Norwich, Plattsburgh) have got some digging to do, but they know how to get there.

Re: The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

I must say...I'm pretty shocked at Hobart checking in at #3 in the East but happy.

I wouldn't say laughable. Surprising...sure.

That's great info about power play and wins and losses by 3 goals and all that.....but it means absolutely nothing. What DOES mean something is
WIN PCT. : Plattsburgh
SOS: Plattsburgh
LAST25%: Plattsburgh

Remember this argument you used for Plattsburgh against Amherst & SNC? Well Hobart wins or ties SOS and Last25% versus each of the other Ranked teams except for Trinity's SOS.

I think one of the consistent things the committee has done over the years is really value SOS for the most part.

No matter...they have 6 losses.....more than any other team in the east rankings ! That is like saying winning doesn't matter !

...or you can say that they have the 2nd most wins of the Ranked Eastern teams. That's like saying winning does matter!

...or why isn't Nichols ranked higher than Plattsburgh? They only have 3 losses to Plattburgh's 5! That's like saying winning doesn't matter!

Can someone explain why Aurora is included in the spreadsheet and Daniel Webster is not?

Leave the NESCAC out of this!

We will see what happens Friday night and during the ECACW playoffs. I am sure all six teams will continue the trend and beat up on each other. I am not saying they shouldn't be ranked...not just third.

SUNY Canton is also listed in the East.

Looking at their schedules, Aurora and Canton had non-conference games, while all of Daniel Webster's games were considered exhibition games (per USCHO).

Re: The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

Six losses is way too many for a 3rd ranked team.....and everyone knows it. I have nothing against Hobart...don't even know much about them. To be fair though, 6 losses is a whole lot in this group. Their two toughest games this season (Trinity,Oswego) were both losses. Looking at the rest of their schedule, I see little other than the ECAC West teams who are all decent. Decent, not necessarily good. Oh yeah, they also lost to the Potsdam Bears. Pool B play by the East committee is the only explanation.
