The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

Re: The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

Here's a scary thought: Plattsburgh women are the presumable #1, and the Women's FF is scheduled for 3/20-21. The men's QF is schedule to be played at Plattsburgh on 3/21. Someone has to move to accomodate the other. What happens here?

Nice problem to have. A number of years back Middlebury men were #1 seed and gave up the chance to host the final four so the #1 seed Middlebury women could host the final four. If Norwich beats Middlebury this weekend than I would believe Norwich would we willing to help solve the problem.:)

first round upset alert: Nichols over Trinity.

I was thinking the same thing! I think it will be a better game than most people think. The same can't be said about the Norwich/Plymouth matchup. Norwich vs. Amherst is a very interesting QF matchup. Hobart vs. Oswego is a toss up given the Lakers slumping offense.

For what it's worth, Nichols is 4-1-1 vs. "Power 7" conference teams (granted Manhatanville,Castleton,Skidmore,Cortland and Morrisville aren't top quality Ws)

AVG GFA 4.2
AVG GAA 2.0

AVG SOGF 37.8
AVG SOGA 40.8

Pretty decent Save % and they will need it against Trinity

Re: The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

Then that wouldn't explain Plattsburgh below UMB since Plattsburgh is some 20+ spots ahead o f UMB in SOS and exactly why I say when it comes Sunday we could see some major changes once the committee sits down together and crunch's the numbers some more.

1. Trinity Affect: The committee could (and has) weighted the criteria on the private rankings differently (and more) the last week.*
2. You are also not taking into account that IF Norwich wins, Babson will probably fall off the ranking of which UMB then loses another win against RNK.*
3. As teams continue to play, the Last 25% can change which can dramatically affect ones spot
4. Last and most importantly, just because Team A is #3 and Team C is #8 right now does not mean that's who they will end up for a couple of reasons:
a. See #2, one team winning/losing and one team dropping out could have a drastic change with the "once ranked always ranked" not in play anymore
b. As I explained before, because Team A is a head of Team C currently CAN have more to do with Team B in between them. If Team B loses and or wins a Pool A bid, Team A and C can now be directly compared (as I did with Plattsburgh and Hobart). I have not crunched the numbers for Plattsburgh (using the criteria not USCHO/DIII Polls) against the other mentioned teams, but it still comes down to what the Committee will weight this year. Some times it's SOS over H-2-H, some times its RNK over Win %, some times its Last 25%

Almost like I knew what I was talking about. ....

But that was two final four weekends, this is one final four weekend and a one game quarterfinal. They shouldn't have any trouble accommodating that.

True
The question will be with the Women's games scheduled for the 20th & 21st and the Mens's on the 21st who in the eyes of NCAA will get the 7:00 PM prime time game slot.

Clarkson this past weekend had the ECAC Women's semifinals and finals plus the men's first round. On Saturday they went
1:00 Clarkson v Cornell (we lost)
4:00 Harvard v Quinnipiac
7:30 Men's game (CCT v RPI)

The only danger was if any of the women's games went marathon, then who knows what the schedule would have been!

I'm almost positive the women's final would take precedence. The really dicey part is that the women's tourney includes a consolation game, which would lock up the rink for the afternoon as well.

edit: Or they just do something like Joe mentioned. Duh.

With the consolation game at 3:30 instead of 4:00, do we see a 12:00 start for the Men? Also: do they bundle all 3 tickets, or force everyone to clear out before the women's games? I really hope all 3 are on Saturday, I wouldn't be able to get Sunday off, and the Friday games are 50/50 as it is!

Re: The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

While we know money isn't always in play, memory serving me correctly all teams must be given a practice slot. Too much for 1 day. The girls have averaged nearly 1400 for Championship games. Since 2005 non Plattsburgh host sites are around 900. Then you toss in another 1700+ game Sunday afternoon....$$$ What was the scuttle with UTICA and the NYSHS Playoffs? If I remember right the NCAA said that they could have played Sunday.

I think they were given that option, but only if Bowdoin agreed to it... Otherwise it was play on Saturday or forfeit, IIRC.

I'm sure the coaches will make the appropriate arrangements for all involved.

It's not up to the coaches, this is the NCAA's....

From the NCAA Championship Handbook:
For the women’s championship, the third-place game will start at 3:30 p.m. local time Saturday. The championship game for both men and women will start at 7 p.m. (local time) Saturday.

and also for more bad news come that weekend:

For the Men:
Preliminary Rounds. Visiting teams must have access to one hour of practice ice before 9 p.m. the day before competition and one hour of practice ice the day of competition. All practices are closed.

For the Women:
Thursday
10 – 11:30 a.m. Game 1 visitor
11:45 a.m. – 1:15 p.m. Game 1 home
1:30 – 3 p.m. Game 2 visitor
3:15 – 4:45 p.m. Game 2 home
The order is subject to change based on team travel and other factors.

Friday
7:30 – 8:30 a.m. Officials
8:45 – 9:45 a.m. Game 1 visitor
10 – 11 a.m. Game 1 home
11:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. Game 2 visitor
12:30 – 1:30 p.m. Game 2 home

Saturday
7:30 – 8:30 a.m. Officials
8:45 – 9:45 a.m. Game 1 visitor
10 – 11 a.m. Game 1 home
11:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. Game 2 visitor
12:30 – 1:30 p.m. Game 2 home

So on Saturday there wouldn't be 2 hours available for both Men's teams to practice and play before the consolation game of the women's tournament. Something is going to have to give. I don't see the NCAA and/or any of the women's teams giving up practice time to let the men play, and rightfully so.

Will the NCAA's allow a Sunday game for the men? Will Trinity allow a Sunday game? Did Trinity put in a bid to host a preliminary game? Will Plattsburgh end up being forced to ship off to Trinity?
