The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

Re: The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

WHOA!! Look at the underlying spreadsheet. They're including record v D-II teams (as a secondary criteria).

spwood -- I think they want Hobart in the tournament. If they stay E3, and barring gross upsets, they look in.

Hobart over Norwich? Hobart's ...---... is better than Norwich's. Is that what they used? But I think Norwich's SoS is a bit high on the NCAA chart (I think the D2 games snuck in there).
Where did you find the underlying spreadsheet? All I get when I hit the link to "East Region" is the 2011 stats.

Re: The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

SOMEONE from that conference is going to get a pool A bid, like it or not they have to rank whomever that is for the final secret ranking for seeding purposes. If Nichols losses their conference tournament, someone else in the ECAC-NE WILL be ranked. Lucky for Hobart they have wins over the top two Nichols and Salve Regina. if Johnson and Wales or one of the other bottom of the barrel teams wins it, it could make RNK interesting. I also imagine someone from the MASCAC will be ranked in the end
If Nichols loses their tourney, someone else will certainly get the AQ, but whoever it is will NEVER BE RANKED. They may be seeded in the NCAA, but NO ONE with 8+ loses will get Ranked.

I don't forsee too much changing in the rankings.

Can Oswego really drop below Hobart after a loss and a tie? I don't think so.

I think it would be very advisable for the East committee to rank Babson at 8th instead of Nichols. Babson would give two ranked wins to Norwich, one to Amherst and one to UMass Boston.

Does anyone find it crazy that a committee could make such a move and change so many team's fortunes in the rankings?

Yes and No. It would be one thing to rank a .500 team that helped/hurt someone in the rankings. However, we're talking about a Babson team that has been ranked high all season and has a strong overall record.

What has Nichols done besides win games against very weak competition?

Boy I really hope they get to come play Norwich and the Cadets are as cocky as you. They also tied Manhatanville (I mean come on its the ECAC WEST they have to be for real) and played right with Hobart in a 1 goal loss.

So what has Hobart done?

Nice lobbying. You don't have a vested interest in getting Norwich 2 more wins, do you?:D

Apparently, some people think Hobart has been doing OK...so far. Hopefully they're not done yet. ;)

I think Hobart is a pretty good team, just given too much with those 6 losses AND no real attractive wins. As far as their SOS goes, it's one thing to play a tough sked, but you've got to win more of those tough games too !! I keep reviewing their schedule and I just don't see it. I see Oswego (a loss) and Trinity (a loss) and then a bunch of ECAC West games. The best wins on their schedule look like Geneseo or Utica.

I don't get it. Are you saying if you lose and tie in one weekend it doesn't matter now. Explain, please. Doesn't something have to change in some way. Just asking.

Re: The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

I just don't see all the love for Hobart....they have six losses ??

The relevant metric is win %, not "number of losses". While the weekly polls during the season seems to focus on # of losses to rank teams, this is not what the NCAA uses...and keep in mind win% is only one of the six criteria and history shows SOS can be weighted higher than win%.

How was that cocky? I'm not saying Nichols isn't good but you've got to be kidding me if you are going trying to argue they've played anywhere near the schedule of the other 7 ranked teams and Babson.
