>>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

I am probably rooting for Niagara and Mercyhurst to win on Friday, and Mercyhurst Saturday. I refuse to root for Canisius anywhere except the NCAA Tournament, but I want Niagara to get an at-large bid to get 2 (or even 3!) AHA schools in the tourney. RMU still has a chance, but very slim.

RMU has less than a 1% chance according to a couple of people who have run all possible scenarios. In all cases for RMU, Niagara must win out so there will be at most 2 AHA teams in NCAA.

Re: Niagara

I heard that the band was not allowed? If someone can confirm that, please write a letter to RIT AD Lou Spiotti. I confirmed with the league some time ago that there is no rule in the AHA that prohibits visiting bands, but Canisius and now apparently Niagara have banned visiting bands. AHA will not enforce unless someone makes them.

The rest of the D-I world allows bands and reserves seats for them. RIT did that for Clarkson this year.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

I read an article on Friday that said that although Cameron has committed for the 2014/15 season Coach Wilson says he'll be in a Tigers uniform this coming fall. Here's the article:

http://www.nugget.ca/2013/03/14/cameron-to-play-for-rit-tigers-in-the-fall

He seems like a perfect fit for the Tigers. I'm excited!

That will be awesome next year, and will allow him to ease into the Tigers system. The year after though with him as a sophmore and garbowski and McGowan as seniors. I'm salivating at the thought.

Where you trying to say:

When Mad's was the starter, the Tigers made it to the AHA final game both years and that should help us (having Ruby as the starter) get there again next year?

No, I just completely forgot about Madolora starting in 2011 and 2012. The perfect definition of a senior moment. I been getting them a lot lately. :( Sucks to get old.

If the AHA wants to be on par with some of the other DI leagues they really need to pay attention to what their member schools are doing. Between the comments about splitting the RIT fans and now about not allowing visiting bands, if any of this is true the AHA administration is sucking the life out of the league. Makes me wish that RIT was in the ECAC, better rivalries, spirited traveling fans for almost every school, decent respect amongst the fans at the rink and a better overall appreciation for the sport by all schools and fans. Maybe RIT has a long term vision for their hockey program that includes a move to another league, maybe that's why Clarkson will be visiting us again.

Maybe Chris Lerch can get Canisius and Niagara to go on record about them either allowing or denying opposing team's bands. I know I have heard that many of the AIC players really enjoy playing in RIT barn.. Just slightly different atmosphere than playing at home.:D ps - Can we borrow some of your employees to kick the *****es of the management at the Olympia and show them how to clean up a rink?

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

There were the same amount of RIT fans at the Saturday game. The corner crew was split into two sections on opposite ends of the rink. My understanding is that it was done on purpose by NU.

From what I understand (as someone who was there), this is probably correct, in an effort to make us less intimidating. Luckily, all this move ended up doing was putting sources of RIT noise everywhere -- even when we weren't concentrated in one location, we were still pretty loud, so I'm glad their efforts failed.

NU students were ignorant. Security would not allow RIT CC to stand or say certain words. NU was allowed to stand up against the glass & when security were forced to say anything to them it was said with a smirk & they continued to stand in front of the glass. A RIT hockey alum's Dad was treated very rudely by some NU season ticket holders as well. All in all, very disappointed we had to be subjected to such abysmal behaviour by NU. I thought the CC were well-behaved, calm & very witty!

I would suggest NU students learn to cheer for their team & not make personal attacks on other fans in the stands. One kid was actually calling our fans on to fight.

My roommate and I were mockingly slammed on the back by the NU fans behind us following the GWG. Not painful, but suffice it to say that it's a hell of a lot worse than mere heckling, and if I had received much more unwanted physical contact, that fight-hungry NU fan you mentioned might have gotten what he wanted. Given that USCHO's forum would most likely censor most of what I have to say regarding Niagara (their team, their fans, their #$%!ty institution on the whole, etc.), I can probably sum it up by saying they're a bunch of classless rejects who deserve to be ceded to Canada. </rant>

My hatred for Niagara has far surpassed Canisius now. Going undefeated at home... RIT still having a miserable record against them. I want them to lose so bad.

Do you think it's fair to say that most newer Tiger fans (myself included, I'm only a third-year) view Canisius as just a rival, and NU as the school to completely and utterly loathe? lol

I cannot confirm that the band was specifically banned from Niagara, but I would imagine I could try to find out for you if you really care to know?

Also, I would totally go and root for Canisius if it means hopefully getting to watch NU lose. I think their games will be while I'm working, though. :/

Ok, rant over. Niagara and their ******y fans just **** me off to no end, sorry.

Not sure if I heard it from the radio guys or read it here or elsewhere, but it was mentioned that the Niagara women's hockey banners are no longer displayed at their rink perhaps on account that the program no longer exists. If that's the case that pretty much say's everything you need to know about the school.

I have no favorites this weekend, if I had to pick whom of the four I would like to see win it all, I'd say Mercyhurst.

I think for most people the Canisius stuff comes from the full on ice brawl between the teams (including goaltenders) in one of the first years of D1. One the Canisius players came out of the box to slam Favot's on the ice in the middle of it.

In general I think our biggest rival is Air Force and is the brunt of most of my fan hatred :)

This may be true.
Certainly when a team fails over and over and over again to win tight games against one opponent (NU), that can cause the fan base to develop a "hatred" for that opponent.
But when it comes to a true "Rivalry" (like RIT had with Elmira back in the D-III days), Air Force would come the closest. The games are almost always close, both teams win their fair share, and they've played each other a lot (being "travel buddies" in the previous scheduling scenario of the AHA). Canisius is getting closer and there is a long history with them since they also played in ECAC-W with the Tigers. Although if it weren't for the aforementioned brawl from the 07-08 season, it shouldn't have been considered much of a rivalry since prior to this season RIT used to beat CC almost as often as NU continues to beat RIT.

Interesting note on the RIT-NU "rivalry". If my quick research and rough calculations are correct... In their D-I history, RIT has held a lead on Niagara for only approximately 16% of the time and had more than a 1-goal lead only three times. Needless to say the few leads they have had were blown, since the only lead that survived until the end of the game was the OT winner last year. I was surprised at how often in their many losses to the Eagles the Tigers actually scored first (and that the three 2-goal leads were all 2-0 leads), accounting for a large percentage of their 16%. Don't know if there was a point to finding any of that out, but figured I'd throw it out there.

So basically, we need to let them score first so we can come from behind?

We scored first in Blue Cross last year.

We just need to play better against them in general.

I'd argue that last weekend was the best hockey we've played all year. Which is kind of sad. I hope we don't settle into AHA mediocrity over the up coming seasons.

Overall, the league has gotten stronger. The fact that RIT struggled this year is a combination of factors including a lack of team chemistry, early goaltending issues, and other AHA teams improving (except for SHU). I think that having a harder time is probably good for the Tigers. Maybe it'll motivate them to get even better and play more consistently (and maybe win a few more OOC games). One can only hope.

As a side note, I'm excited to see what the new recruit Cameron can do for RIT next year.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

My 2cents about rivalries and teams I hate. I personally can't stand Holy Cross... Every time we play them, it seams like they always find a way to mess with our goaltenders, hitting, slashing what have you. The Air Force games are always really physical and hard fought even games. More of an equal and opposite rivalry, yin and yang if you will, if we aren't on top they are (except for this year). Even in the years after the brawl Canisius has always been a very physical crossing over (on several ovations) to a dirty hitting team. After Hudson left it seams they have cleaned up their act a bit. Those games have defiantly have lost some punch. Then I agree with most everything about NU and their fans.

To my knowledge the plan was to bring this point up on the conference call when all the ticketing shenanigans and other things were decided. Supposedly, there was a league representative in on the call. But I don't know if the point about the band was actually brought up during the call.

Well as far as the Clarkson band this year at the Ritter, I would have been just as happy if they had refused them entry or tossed them right out of the building. They ignored rink staff, completely refused to cooperate with anyone, were rude and obnoxious to those who unfortunately happened to be seated around them and generally were a **** poor representative of their school. Not to mention with seating in the Ritter at a premium to save a majority of a section for another team's band is quite frankly a bad idea.

If you are going to allow another teams band into your rink, then they should have to cooperate with regards to who plays when, general rules of conduct, etc. Just because you are an organized group does not exempt you from basic rules and simple civility. And it does require some degree of coordination with the host in general and I would hazard a guess that a great many schools don't have the staff or want the hassle of trying to coordinate such a thing, so its just easier to say "you are welcome, but your band is not".

Can someone give me a link to the spreadsheet that lists recruits for all DI teams? It was some guy's site but I lost the link and can't remember his name...
