Niagara still can get bumped because of all of the upsets so far. If Michigan, Colorado College, and BU win their tournaments, Niagara is out. Brown or Union will win the ECAC, meaning an at-large has to be 14th or better in the PairWise -- as things stand now.
Is it sour of me not to want Niagara to get in?With Wisconsin or CC, Canisius or Mercyhurst, and Brown or Union now in, a team needs to finish at least 13th to get an at-large bid. If Michigan, Ohio State or BU win, that rises to 12th. If Michigan or Ohio State and BU win, it's 11th. Niagara needs to be rooting for Notre Dame, Miami and Lowell.

It's not a matter of one team or another having an advantage. It a matter of potentially having playoff seedings come down to a game where only two teams have played outside in potentially crappy conditions. Instead of talent and coaching being the two biggest factors in determining the outcome of a game, it could be weather. This is in a sport where weather should be of zero consequence in the outcome.
Well, it appears that Niagara is safely in with an at-large bid despite a 1-3-3 OOC record. So we can now stop the perennial speculation on whether an AHA team can get an at-large with a dominant league record. The answer is "yes" and has a lot to do with not just all those wins, but the fact that the rest of the league is getting good wins. It will be nice to see two AHA programs in the "show", even if they are not the two I'd prefer to have there.
Yes and no. Niagara completely dominated the league in a fashion that is pretty rare. If they had lost even one more game they likely would have been out, and they pretty much backed into the at large bid they got thanks to the dice all coming up with their rolls.
The AHA is slightly better out of conference year after year, but our out of conference record is still terrible. But we got strong performances by a few teams (namely Robert Morris) and the improbable hail mary of AIC beating a #1 team, etc that Niagara was able to capitalize on by sweeping those teams. I doubt we'll see an at large AHA team two years in a row, or more often then not in the next couple years.
After successfully using video review twice in the tournament, AHA has approved it for use in rinks that have it for next season, and are making it mandatory for teams to have for the following season. It's about time...
I would love to see the 7th seed in the AHA take out the#1 team in the tourney. That would be awesome.
"Successful"? Not from Mercyhurst's perspective, I'd wager.
