>>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

It'll be a great way to show off a collegiate atmosphere to casual fans.

That highlights my main point. It will not highlight the "collegiate atmosphere". Nobody will be close to the ice and sight lines will be questionable at best. I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt it.

While RIT has no experience with semesters yet, I will stick to my guns on the population of students dropping significantly by the 3rd day after classes end. Finals have a way of being moved into week 15 ... especially when the holidays are coming.

Totally agree with this. Conference games are way too important in college hockey to have them being played in potentially crappy conditions. Unfortunately I guess now for RIT, gimmicks are more important than the actual games.

I don't get this thinking. If both teams are playing in the same crappy conditions, then what's the advantage to either team?

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

I'm surprised about all the negativity about the outdoor game. It's a great showcase for the community. It'll be a great way to show off a collegiate atmosphere to casual fans.

I doubt this will attract any casual fans to college hockey. A casual fan will probably choose the Amerks, and probably would not go to two outdoor games back to back. I would expect that most of the crowd will have some sort of RIT affiliation.

With all that being said, I don't see anything wrong with RIT jumping on board. It really seems like the Sabres/Amerks and Red Wings are driving most of this and RIT was invited to join in. I don't think RIT is a big winner here, but I also think it doesn't hurt them to join in.

It's not a matter of one team or another having an advantage. It a matter of potentially having playoff seedings come down to a game where only two teams have played outside in potentially crappy conditions. Instead of talent and coaching being the two biggest factors in determining the outcome of a game, it could be weather. This is in a sport where weather should be of zero consequence in the outcome.

It would have been foolish for RIT to say no to an invitation for this. We all know this.

I think it could be a fun event. I agree that I am not sure it will draw the "casual fan" UNLESS RIT starts off well.

Tanev with his 2nd career NHL Goal in the 'Nucks' 2-1 win over the Coyotes:

Funny, Tan Man's second goal was exactly the same as his first. Clearly he's figured out how to reliably hit that corner from the middle of the slot.

Isn't that the same shot he scored against Denver in Albany?

What would be foolish about not being part of it? I really do not see the benefit to RIT in general, or to either of the RIT hockey programs specifically.

Maybe RIT sees more Arena cash flow coming from this. I think actually winning a title would be far more effective.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

I think its just recognition and getting RIT's name and program out there attached to an event that celebrates hockey in Rochester. It would be much worse if they were excluded from the event all together

Agreed. I just wish it was a NC game against a team that would actually draw a crowd. I guess a Buffalo - Rochester rivalry could be created from this, but .. meh?

It's all about being part of the community and getting the community involved with the school. Brick City is for the students, their families and alumni, Imagine RIT and this event bring the school and community together. Destler get's that.

RIT's vision is community support/appreciation of hockey - that is about all they care about (to the extent of ruining the "college" atmosphere at games. This outdoor game is just another chance to get our name out there.
