>>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

How does playing ECHL hockey in March have any impact on Saracino's entry into law school next fall?

Guess that depends how well he does, and if they offer him something beyond a tryout deal.

An outside game would be OK, but is there any thoughts about a four team tournament to open the season at the Blue Cross?

Wow, congrats. It only took you one post to steal the words right out of my mouth. I couldn't agree more.

Geeez, why all the hatred for a change in atmosphere to the outdoors? It's something different. I'm pretty excited about it...

Plus, your beer will stay cold :)

While I am excited for it, I want it to be a 1 time thing. Poor ice conditions (temporary ice componded with weather), poor sightlines (good for baseball, not so good for hockey), and the potential for rain/snow/freezing weather makes it less than exciting. I went to both Frozen Fenway and the Ohio State/Michigan at Progressive Field game last season. Fenway was about 60 degrees outs with the sun beating on the ice. Progressive field was about 10 degrees out. Neither was totally comfortable, and had poor sightlines.

It is also a conference game, which mean so much in AHA and in my opinion, shouldn't be played in the sub-standard conditions provided by outdoor games. I also propose we don't play any conference games at the JAR (Bentley) :p

This is also a great opportunity to bring the RIT product outside of Ritter for the oft-mentioned "community" to see. Frontier will seat a lot more than Ritter and is right downtown, plus it's a unique event.

This is a rare and important opportunity for RIT to showcase itself before the opening of the new rink.

The good news is we are undefeated against Niagara at Frontier Field and 1 and 0 in the last year in downtown Rochester against them!!!!!

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

Apparently this is the Sabres' way of thanking Rochester for stealing the Amerks during the lockout. I would have preferred that they play 2-3 Sabres regular season games in Rochester to pay us back. That would have been something to get excited about!

Read the D&C article and you'll see just how much RIT is featured. Right there with high school games and open ice time. I'm still not optimistic, but good luck to RIT in pulling off a memorable event.

Saw some hints on twitter of Adam Hartley joining a pro team, and a post to "have fun in Trenton." Presumably this is the Trenton Titans (ECHL) but I have not seen anything official.

Ughhhhhh this just increases the likelihood that Niagara beats us off some lucky bounce.

Totally agree with this. Conference games are way too important in college hockey to have them being played in potentially crappy conditions. Unfortunately I guess now for RIT, gimmicks are more important than the actual games.

After seeing that the Amerks are going to be playing also, I am wondering how many people will really come to see the RIT games. The pessimist in me is going to guess that the casual fan will prefer to go to the Amerks game over the RIT games. I just hope that RIT doesn't end up playing outdoors in front of 2000 people.

Have you seen the Sabres play this year? Nothing to be excited about, I assure you. Unless you're a fan of the away team.

RIT is playing the day after the Amerks, the second day of the 9 day long event. The high school slot is a full 7 days after the RIT game, long after the excitement has died down. I think it's pretty clear that RIT is in a pretty privileged position.

Is there going to be any television coverage of the games this weekend? I would still like to cheer on Canisius and maybe even Uconn as well.

It's Rochester, it's almost winter, what else are you going to be doing?

It'll be a nice late fall day, about 25 degrees with bright sunshine, enjoy the day out of the house! :p

All 3 games are on TWCS in Rochester. I know at least the canisius/niagara game is also on in the Buffalo, Syracuse, and Albany markets.

Shall we start an over-under on fans? I think 2000 is on the high side. Dec. 11 is the last day of classes!!
(There will still be exams ongoing, but things thin out big time during exam week.)

And to RIT Winters, I have seen the Sabres plenty and would still take them (against anybody, but preferably the Canucks) indoors in Rochester over any of this nonsense outdoors. Just cannot get enough of Gerbe in fights, or scoring "shorties". ;)

The last day of classes is a Wednesday? That doesn't make any sense.

Either way, if exam week is the next week it's fair to bet that most students won't be home by Saturday, as pretty much everyone has at least one final. Students alone should drive the number close-ish to 2000 just based on average attendance. Factor in how much more heavily this game is going to be marketed both on and off campus...this game is going to sell a lot of tickets. I won't plant my flag in the ground and say sellout, but to even suggest 2000 is embarrassing.

December 14 Last Saturday classes
Dec. 13,16,17,18,19 Final exams
December 20 Residence halls close

I'm surprised about all the negativity about the outdoor game. It's a great showcase for the community. It'll be a great way to show off a collegiate atmosphere to casual fans. I always got the feeling at the BCA games it was mostly alumni and longtime local fans buying up all the seats.
