>>> RIT Tigers 2011-12 -- Now then, where were we? <<<

Re: >>> RIT Tigers 2011-12 -- Now then, where were we? <<<

No one is dismissing them, however, they cannot beat everyone with ease....not at least teams in the top 10....and as long as Chamberlin plays well, they have as good a chance to win as anyone, but if she has an off game, they are a very beatable team. Let's see how they do over the next few weekends before you crown them, remember you do still have to play the games to win the championship.;)

Agreed that at this time of year no one will beat anyone with ease. Case in point - Potsdam vs Elmira. Don't look at the next game until you take care of the first game.
Every team is one hot goalie away from making a long playoff run or having a very quick playoff run.

I'm looking forward to Saturday. It seems the three eastern leagues have a lot of work to do to get thru to the NCAAs. And it's nice to see new teams (Potsdam, Oswego, Bowdion, Trinity and Casleton) stepping up and challenging the big teams.

Please remember Bowdoin is not a "new" team. The Polar Bears went to the dance the first 4 years ('01-'02 thru '04-'05) there was an NCAA DIII tournament.

As I was typing that down I knew I should probably leave them off, but it's is nice to see them getting back to their former form.

Should be a good championship tilt tomorrow. 2nd semi-final tonight was a very good game. It's fitting that the team responsible for RIT's only blemishes this season is the team they will have to face for the title.

The girls have to stay out of the box. If they get into penalty trouble like they did against Potsdam in the second, Platty's going to romp.

Well, they mostly stayed out of the box. Had that brief 5x3 to kill off but they got the job done. Overall a very gutsy effort by the Tigers. Both goalies played great games; all three goals were off weird deflections.

Onward to the selection show!

Even first period but Platty sure had them on the ropes for the first 19:59 of the second period. Last second PP goal for RIT must have been a heart-breaker for them. Very tight game with lots of scrambles and fights for the puck. Both teams looked tentative. Good win for RIT though. Well done!!

Re: >>> RIT Tigers 2011-12 -- Now then, where were we? <<<

We host Concordia in the first round, which will be Friday or Saturday (I am hoping for Sat!!) We have played Concordia twice before, and are 1-1 against them...but it was in the 89-90 season so it doesn't really say much. I assume RIT will announce ticket info and a game time at somepoint later today.

As expected, Plattsburgh got one of the 3 at large bids.

Not as expected as you may think. Elmira beat Plattsburgh in the numbers so the committee must have changed some things up or just moved Plattsburgh up solely based on the fact they got to the ECAC West finals and Elmira lost in the play-in round.

Actually, it is exactly what I expected, although I completely understand that it is open to debate. In fact Josh Carey projected Elmira into the field so you certainly should not have expected them to get in. Seriously though, you can't flatly say Elmira beat Plattsburgh in the criteria. If you look at it strictly as a numbers game (which the NCAA clearly states they don't do) then yes, Elmira technically wins more categories of criteria than Plattsburgh. However, they weigh each segment differently, so let's have a look shall we.

Code:
    Elmira vs Plattsburgh
WIN 0.7885 1 0.7222 0
SOS 0.5300 0 0.5645 1
H2H 1- 1- 0 0 1- 1- 0 0
COP 17- 4- 1 1 16- 5- 3 0
RNK 4- 4- 1 1 4- 5- 2 0
============================================
PTS 3 1

Now, to the casual observer, one would see 3-1 and think it's cut and dry. But if you have a look, the difference between COP and RNK is so razor thin those categories are essentially even. Which leaves us with two things to look at, Win% and SOS. Elmira holds the lead in Win% by a large enough amount to award them a point for it, however it is certainly not a large gap. SOS on the other hand is favors Plattsburgh immensely. It's quite clear that the commanding lead Plattsburgh had in SOS outweighed the good but not great advantage Elmira had in Win%. It's safe to say that just playing RIT, and the boost to SOS it provided (and yes it was a significant boost, nearly .01 points, which is a lot when speaking of SOS over a 25+ game season) is what propelled the Cardinals into the dance.

Re: >>> RIT Tigers 2011-12 -- Now then, where were we? <<<

It's as simple as this...the Soaring Sparrows crashed and burned by looking ahead instead of taking care of their immediate concerns. They didnt deserve to be in the tourney. Pure and simple.

Prez is derek....So you just told him to go read his own blog

I was not surprised at all to see Platsburgh in over Elmira. I know everyone says that a game is a game no matter when it happens, but I think thats crap when it comes to these situations. When there are 8 teams that make the NCAA's the playoffs start when the conference tourney's start. Once Elmira lost, there was no way they were going to get in over Plattsburgh...unless maybe Plattsburgh had lost to Oswego in the QF's.

I have to agree. They had a chance to host the ECAC west playoffs but got swept by RIT. They had a shot in the first round but lost again. They have no one to blame but themselves. The NCAA did the right thing.
