Part VI of the XXI Winter Olympiad: USA!! USA!! USA!!

Re: Part VI of the XXI Winter Olympiad: USA!! USA!! USA!!

This was a terrific Olympics for the USA. With the expansion of the program and improved national efforts on our part, we took more medals this time around than anybody, ever. Over the last three winter Olympics, the US has won more medals than our previous 10 Olympics combined. We even took four nordic medals for cripes sake. And NASCAR helped us win the gold in bob sled! There was a long period where US medals in just about any sport in the winter Olympics were the exception, not the rule. Hopefully, those days are gone for good. Remember, we don't have government involvement in developing our Olympicans, private money, private efforts. So we celebrate the many victories, and learn from the losses, as we prepare for Sochi. IMHO, a much tougher challenge than Vancouver.

Oh yes, to our Canadian friends: congratulations on a good Olympics and your record breaking efforts in them. Don't let that gold medal in hockey delude you into thinking it's a birth right. It isn't. One of these days. . .

We've got 8 more years of Olympic size ice surfaces, which won't help.

Didn't see it elsewhere, but Joannie Rochette will carry Canada's flag during the closing ceremonies.

Think there'll be a dry eye in the house?

None in my house. Hers was an olympian effort, remarkable.

But in this context, it was actually pretty funny.

The concept was outstanding. The mime was not. Hate them.

To quote a great living American (Gary Larson): "If a tree fell in the forest and landed on a mime, would anyone care? :D

What's worse, mimes or clowns?

Harper should make Barry go to the "In and Out" store to buy a 2-4.

On the other hand think of the thrill of watching the Canadian basketball team in London. Or their scorching 4 X 100 relay team. Or their fantastic, world record setting swimmers. Or their sprinters (oh wait, they had one of those but he was a cheater).

OK -- best/worst closing cerermony outfits?

Yours look like something I wore in the 70s. Ours look like they were designed by Bob & Doug McKenzie!
