The lyrics are rather different, but it's the same tune.

besides what dobbs said... since when is it any nation's interest to highlight their "modernity"... maybe the UK thinks its in this interest but the UK prides itself on its multiculturalism and its neo-modernthinking. Its their past and historical culture that make them interesting.

The tweet I just got from Sochi is that the ceremony would "introduce modern Russia to the world".

I have a CD of 20 or so songs sung by the Russian Red Army Chorus. The "spookyness" or "creepyness" people talk about I refer to as "badass." :D

Quite a bit of Russian music lends itself to that kind of vibe, that is for sure.

ok... take the anthem... then compare the "official" and "true" translations... most of the other Russian (tetris or dodgeball Russian level) music is interesting in its own right.

Yeah, I think NBC is about 5-10 minutes behind.

And that's who I want to represent my country - two whiny crybabies - Evgeny Plushenko and Alex Ovechkin. Could they give them jackets that fit at least?
