Part VI of the XXI Winter Olympiad: USA!! USA!! USA!!

Re: Part VI of the XXI Winter Olympiad: USA!! USA!! USA!!

I'm sorry, I would have loved nothing more than to take it out on their arrogant hockey team, but who the hell hates Canada? Mexico is more arrogant and they've contributed far less to Western civilization.

that being said, **** Crosby with Roboshark. Sideways.

US College Hockey sweeps the directorate awards, and gets 4 of 6 on the all tournament team.

As a season ticket holder in Grand Forks, its a thrill to watch this kind of talent come through the rink - year in and year out.

That's not the point, it's the conflict of interest aspect. Obviously the IOC figured that since the game is loaded with NHL guys that putting two NHL officials on the game was OK.

To the not-so casual observer it seems highly suspect. For what it's worth, I'm not a fan of the IIHF standards on interference and obstruction but that's neither here nor there. Both of these teams are happy to play it dirtier.

i know there's the country thing and all... but this really was an all-star game. and if the best refs in the world are CA (like this hockey players). so be it.

and once the 'powers that be' didn't kick out that canadian goon following the take down of ruskie guy the other night. who cares:rolleyes:

you know, I can reasonably believe that the NHL refs can be trusted... but reasonable isn't good enough for the Olympic games. I'm not going to complain about the reffing but the whole point is that you don't take the chance that one of the zebras decides to get patriotic.

Re: Part VI of the XXI Winter Olympiad: USA!! USA!! USA!!

I should also probably add that I can't recall any single event that would cause me to think they affected the game off the top of my head.

a canadian (dick pound) is in charge of the intl drug doping thing, right? where to draw the line?

if anything, the only call questioned was a no call "offsides" on the US goal. did canuck zebra not blow the whistle to not draw attention to himself?!?!

everone is from somewhere. and honestly, i'd trust a canadian official before anyone other country's citizen to keep a hockey game honest like todays. (i mean, would you trust ANY 'impartial' frenchman?!?!!?  )

Re: Part VI of the XXI Winter Olympiad: USA!! USA!! USA!!

You ask every guy on Team USA and they'd all, to a man, vote for experienced Canadian NHL refs against Canada than any foriegn refs. No question

The refs were not what beat Team USA. Canada beat us - they were the better team for 2/3rds of the game and in the OT, where the USA could not compete with Canada in the one-on-one nature of 4-on-4 hockey. The USA would have been far better off in a 5 on 5 overtime.

The USA would have needed near perfection from Ryan Miller today to win gold, and Miller was good rather than great when it counted most.

Our boys played well, but Canada was the better team today. For all their smugness about "their game" the gap is closing. There are 200 American NHLers now, and Canada had sweat a bit to win this on home ice.

Mexicans have that third world civility that makes you want to drop a nuke on the Azteca when its at capacity. The Canadians might boo the anthem and 18 year olds and have their head up their arse about "their" game, but they aren't throwing cups of urine, bags of vomit, or nails at the team and the US fans.

Canada also isn't exporting their citizens here illegally and allowing a giant drug war to spill over the border. Or they're so polite we haven't noticed yet.

I don't think anyone is saying they affected the game.

The loss of this game was sewn in by the fact that the Canadians played better for nearly this entire game. We were very very lucky to go to OT. The US team did not come out to play and it cost a Gold Medal.

Re: Part VI of the XXI Winter Olympiad: USA!! USA!! USA!!

Pretty sure the reffing options are what they are specifically because of the agreement between the NHL and the IIHF/IOC to allow NHL players in the games - there's simply not a deep international reffing pool as you find in soccer, for example.
