Part VI of the XXI Winter Olympiad: USA!! USA!! USA!!

Re: Part VI of the XXI Winter Olympiad: USA!! USA!! USA!!

I don't know why Timmy Hos can't start a serious push into the US. I'll take them over Dunkin or Krispy Kreme any day.

Visit upstate New York. They've taken over Buffalo, Rochester and have moved into Syracuse recently too.

Oh there's Timmy Ho's in Manhattan too.

Re: Part VI of the XXI Winter Olympiad: USA!! USA!! USA!!

i highly doubt that... probably not a deep IIHF pool... but that can be said for the NHL refs as well since none of them are IIHF. Sweden, Finland, Russia, Germany, Switzerland, etc all have their own professional leagues. I think this is more likely that the NHL wanted their guys out there to avoid the peculiarities of having european refs.

Uh, yeah, that's what I said. NHL players means that the NHL wants refs of their standards there, too.

And the pool of NHL-caliber refs isn't sufficiently international in scope, nor is reffing as consistent across the IIHF as it is in, say, FIFA.

My point is that i have a hard time believing that international refs are incapable. Of course that point and your point about an NHL-IIHF agreement on the matter are two separate things.

Re: Part VI of the XXI Winter Olympiad: USA!! USA!! USA!!

Maybe this has been addressed, but why did the Canadian Olympic committee decide it was a good idea to give out bouquets of cauliflower (or was it broccoli?) to the medal winners?

My wife, the florist) gagged every time she saw a medal ceremony.

Congrats Vancouver, according to Costas & Michaels your dome is similar to Metrodump. Way to go. :D

The game was excellently officiated. There is no issue here.

Congrats to the Canadians.

P.S. Someone send this Rafalski back to the Wings please.
P.S.S. I really hope someone on the Sabres creams Cindy Tuesday.

I'm still POed that there's one in Parkersburg WV and I can't open one here in State College!

Didn't see it elsewhere, but Joannie Rochette will carry Canada's flag during the closing ceremonies.

Think there'll be a dry eye in the house?

I haven't been in upstate since I left college 6 years ago so I probably missed the big migration.

Manhattan? Nice. I'll swing by next time I'm up there.

Franchising rights?

I've long wanted to open a real poutine shop in DC. The late night crowd would eat up.

No plans for this part of the state. :(

I might open a chip truck - make a bundle in the summer and then enjoy hockey season.

You could always open a poutine stand on South Beach - you'd make millions! :D

Curling or Steve Holcomb: Which one gives fat kids more Olympic hope? :D

Re: Part VI of the XXI Winter Olympiad: USA!! USA!! USA!!

One thing we Canadians are good at is poking fun at ourselves!

That's hilarious!!! :D

Re: Part VI of the XXI Winter Olympiad: USA!! USA!! USA!!

This was a terrific Olympics for the USA. With the expansion of the program and improved national efforts on our part, we took more medals this time around than anybody, ever. Over the last three winter Olympics, the US has won more medals than our previous 10 Olympics combined. We even took four nordic medals for cripes sake. And NASCAR helped us win the gold in bob sled! There was a long period where US medals in just about any sport in the winter Olympics were the exception, not the rule. Hopefully, those days are gone for good. Remember, we don't have government involvement in developing our Olympicans, private money, private efforts. So we celebrate the many victories, and learn from the losses, as we prepare for Sochi. IMHO, a much tougher challenge than Vancouver.

Oh yes, to our Canadian friends: congratulations on a good Olympics and your record breaking efforts in them. Don't let that gold medal in hockey delude you into thinking it's a birth right. It isn't. One of these days. . .
