Part VI of the XXI Winter Olympiad: USA!! USA!! USA!!

Re: Part VI of the XXI Winter Olympiad: USA!! USA!! USA!!

Funny story on this.

I was at the Olympic game in Vancouver when Vikingstad got his hat trick for Norway against the Swiss. About 20 minutes before the game (and 90% of the fans were already in their seats, mostly neutral Canadians) the arena host interviewed Vikingstad's wife and family on the giant scorboard video screen, and Vikingstad's young daughter held up a sign that said "Go, Dad, Go." Everyone gave some cute applause and went on with life. During the game, Vikingstad scored his first goal, and the scoreboard screen cut back to the kid holding the sign and the place erupted in cheers. Then after his second goal, they cut back again to the kid and the parts of the crowd start chanting "Go Dad, Go". By the time Vikingstad scored goal #3, the hats are raining down, the kid is holding the sign on screen and virtaully the whole arena crowd is all chanting "Go, Dad, Go". Probably the greatest day in that familes life - he's likely never played in front of 20,000 before, and to have them all chanting for you at the Olympic Games for your hat trick is about is cool as it gets - a true Olympic moment for an obscure Norwegian hockey player.
I'd say he's not very obscure now. Very cool moment.

Jay Leno has Apolo Ohno on right now. He discussed his DQ. They showed the part of the race. He claims there was no pushing, but it's up to the refs to decide that. Also says that he's proud of the medals he won :)

So you're the person that's watching Leno, eh?

Stupid question:

Why is Crosby hated so much more than Ovechkin?

I'm not saying it isn't warranted; just asking.

Other than the whining, crying and diving, they're the same. He's a pu$$y.

Is this a universal reaction, or is it bounded by loyalty? (Other than Pens fans, obviously.)

I know Caps fans hate him, but they hate Malkin and anybody else in a Pens sweater too.

Whoa now, let's not just assume it's only fans that think he's a whiny *****.

Question 4: Which player complains the most on the ice?
Top Vote Getter: Sidney Crosby (52%)
• A simple Google search will tell you what some fans think of Sidney Crosby on the ice ("cry baby" is the most often-used G-rated word); but at various times in his short career, Crosby has been accused of complaining too much to officials about calls or non-calls and embellishing fouls to draw penalties. It was a subject that was heightened during last season's playoffs. Crosby has repeatedly denied being that kind of a player.

I'm not a fan of either team, and Crosby's always been a twit in my mind. Some of it, I'm sure, is that he's promoted above and beyond everyone else (to the extent that the few NHL games I get to see on TV involve the Penguins 80% of the time), but part of it is his constant chirping to the officials and soccer-esque diving.

I like Malkin, I like Ovechkin. Crosby can DIAF, as far as I'm concerned though.

Not a fan of either team (or any team, really) and I like him. I wouldn't say there's a universal reaction - everyone's entitled to their own opinion.

Crosby whines and embellishes here and there. It being completely ignored by the media bugs me. Ovechkin jumps into nearly every hit and is rarely called for a charge. It being completely ignored by the media bugs me.

I used to see Ovechkin as the vigilante when it came to Crosby/Ovechkin.

However, late last year and this year especially I see they are one in the same player for the most part.

Crosby whines, Ovechkin lays dirty hits, both are untouchable by the officials.

There is no denying either of their talents. It just sucks when you're a fan of a team that has to play them so much and see them get all the calls to go their way 90% of the time.

When the calls are made they go their way because, you know what, they're better than everyone else and in order for mere mortal NHL players to stop them, they have to hold, slash, and interfere them. They probably draw at least 10 more penalties a game that aren't called, so they really do have a right to whine and complain if the refs don't want to call the game the way it's suppose to be called.

Stick parallel to the ice that touches someone without slowing them down? 2 minuntes
Holding someone up at the blue line after the pucks been dumped in 3 seconds ago? Solid defense
