Osama bin Laden Declared Dead

Re: Osama bin Laden Declared Dead

From what we know, OBL just wanted to see the US destroyed...no more, no less. Different cats.

I'm not convinced of this. I bet they have an overall plan for the world in mind. They just realize that as long as the US in around, it just isn't going to happen.

Re: Osama bin Laden Declared Dead

Got 7 of them right.
Good call on not releasing them. However, somehow someway, I have a feeling they will be released at some point through some leak.

How about you fill out a FOIA request for it?
Thats kind of my thought on it as well. I would wager a few of the big news groups will probably back a Freedom of Information request to get to look at those photos. And if it takes a year or so, so be it. It could very well be a bigger ace in the hole for Obama than what his Birth Certificate could ever bee.

Why do so many football coaches teach history? I switched from being a history major a few years in to school. When people asked why, I usually responded with "I don't like football enough to coach it."
Its not like history in the book changes much. Just gotta work out a lessen plan for one year, the tests as well, and then just make minor tweeks to it after that.

Usually the plan is for a Middle Eastern Caliphate under the control of whatever religious leader is closest to their beliefs, if not themselves.

British journalists open the checkbook and get some "after" pictures from the raid from an "anonymous" Pakastani official.

2 things of interest: 1) The usual # of headshots. 2) The fancy, probably classified remnants of a stealth? helicopter.

Don't look if you don't like seeing bodies.

Yeah, the helicopter was definitely the most amazing thing to me in those pictures. Had never seen one look like that before.

My other thought though was that it sure didn't look "destroyed". I was under the impression we had blown it to smithereens.

The parts are probably on their way to the highest bidder between Russia and China by now. Whoops.

Re: Osama bin Laden Declared Dead

It does look like it is only one section of it. The tail maybe?

Those are three VERY dead men.

I like seeing THESE bodies! Uh, oh, here comes the nurse with my thorazine, gotta go.

Oh, I'm sure people who know a whole lot more than I do destroyed all the parts that needed to be destroyed. I was just surprised to see such a big chunk of it left.

They were in a hurry to get out before pakistan scrambled Jets, which sounds like a load of crap to me. My buddies Dad was 2nd in Command at Loring Air Force base in the early 70s, he got told to retire when on a practice mission they didn't get the planes up in a certain amount of time, I don't remember the exact time but it was way less than 45 minutes more like less than 10 minutes.

Re: Osama bin Laden Declared Dead

The second photo in the slideshow shows something in smithereens. That was probably the part of it sensitive technology.

Re: Osama bin Laden Declared Dead

I used to work with a guy who was once an Airborne Ranger. As a Ranger, you go through anti-interrogation training.

He once told me that it is a fact that you get more information out of being nice to your suspect than from any form of harsh interrogation.

Well stated.

The next time you fly. And you're made to take off your shoes. And to pose for a nude photo. And are fondled and groped by somebody not smart enough to spread the mayo on a Whopper, thank OBL. For the millions of Americans who have been subjected to these and other humiliations in the name of "security," seeing what OBL looked like after stopping a couple with his face would go a long way toward making it all worthwhile.

So this is why we need to see the photos. ;)

Works for me. Preferable to having the "great white father" in Washington (you should pardon the expression) make the decision for us. If you don't want to see 'em, hide under the bed with the dust bunnies.

Re: Osama bin Laden Declared Dead

Don't think its a big deal that they won't release the photos. Of all the reasons not to, the one I respect the most is that we don't go around displaying trophies. I don't mind people wanting to see them out of revenge, closure, etc but neither of those should factor into the administration's decision. Its a simple analysis. What good comes from this vs what harm? No good comes out of it as the only real rational, to prove that he's dead, will not satisfy the most ardent tin foil hatters anyway, any more than Obama's birth certificate has. The harm is it moves the country back to the dark days of the Bush administration/torture/Abu Gharaib, etc in that it sinks the US back down to Any Other Country, which it isn't. The US is The Best Country in Human History, and a country like that doesn't display trophy pictures like shooting down a 10 point buck and then standing over it. The a-hole is dead. Never again will he plan an attack on the US. Most likely we gained valuable intelligence from what was in his house. No need to be angry over something as trivial as a picture of his head blown off IMHO.

I wonder... if we're shown abu ghraib and rolling stone flaunting pictures of alleged marine atrocities...why not UBL? I'd like to have that balance. not to metion we have the right to see it. in the 20's there were pictures run all the time of mob murders...valentine's day massacre etc.

my other question...not to you but to the media. why the moral equivalence between college kids cheering bin laden's (a mass murderer) death and palestinians and others in the middle east cheering the death of innocent civilians?

You ask way too many questions. You have to understand, there are jihadists who would put explosives in their underwear the moment they see the photos of a dead OBL. Merely knowing he's dead, without the photos, and they're all warm and fuzzy and (like Norman Bates) wouldn't harm a fly. Bosh. Besides, haven't we been told for decades that people who hide behind "national security" are scoundrels?

it just looks like part of the tail, not a complete helecopter -- that looks like a tail rotor

Pio... I apologized for being snide, and tried to let it drop; but it looks like your feeling are still hurting, so let me try to explain why I went to such extremes in "attacking" you.
Now normally, I'm your best friend on this forum. I appreciate your stoutly conservative views, and agree with them, and especially appreciate your willingness to stick up for our servicemen in every instance. I'm even a fan of the Denver Pioneers as the traditionally excellent anti-Gophers. But when you launched into that tirade about your right to see the pics, including " Fook 'em. Fook 'em 'till they bleed", and "I don't care if the SEALs killed OBL by hacking him to pieces or by inserting a grenade in his rectum (actually, I rather like that one)" I admit I was turned off to the point of intentionally taking that dig at you.
Once again, I apologize. The reason I did it is because I felt you were perpetuating stereotypes of us conservatives as stupid violence-prone rednecks, and thought my subtle dig might be more effective than saying "Old Pio, could you tone it down?" Obviously I was wrong. But take note that we actually agree on the point of releasing the photos.
Thanks, though, for accusing me of saying anything to defend Obama at all costs. I'm hoping it'll give me some street cred with the liberals around here. ;)

Re: Osama bin Laden Declared Dead

In fact, I think it's a political blunder for Obama to refuse outright at this point. The pressure is only gonna grow, and they'll get out eventually with or without his consent, and it'll look out of his control at that point.
