Osama bin Laden Declared Dead

Re: Osama bin Laden Declared Dead

it's a sad reality but one which they brought to us. I only hope it really doesn't last 50-100 years but it seems like they're willing to continue ad-infinitum

This is one reason why I get exasperated with this talk of the "war on terror." It's not a war. It's the new normal. People think of "war" and they immediately think of things like endgames, surges, exit strategies, etc. And their patience is thin. That's not helpful.

the new normal, very well put. it's depressing to think about, but true unfortunately.

I'm not particularly concerned with how other nations perceive our killing of OBL, Kashmiri or... Mullah Omar and/or Zawahri (if or when that happens). they're mass murderers, and not just of americans. I don't think India or Spain for example would give a **** if we continued to blow AQ leaders to dust for 100 years.

The biggest death toll of terrorism is by far other Muslims.

Everybody's OK with us taking the war to AQ. The objections come up when our own extremists use it as an excuse for their personal pet projects (Iraq -- 100,000 civilians killed: that's 34 9-11's) or we are actually trying to do the right thing but stumble around Baby Huey style and kill hundreds of bystanders. If the FBI killed a dozen well-scrubbed white kids every time they raided a drug lord hideout, everybody would complain that was an unacceptable shedding of innocent blood.

Nice, compare Americans who support (ed) the war in Iraq with AQ. Not clever. Not accurate. Just ultra liberal boilerplate. Why am I not surprised you credulously quote the statistics provided by the virulently anti-American Iraq Body Count.Org? What else is new? I guess since Baghdad Bob's no longer available, you've got to get your anti-American propaganda from somewhere.

"Secret" drone strikes in Yemen? Yup, secret drone strikes in Yemen.

The Obama administration has intensified the American covert war in Yemen, exploiting a growing power vacuum in the country to strike at militant suspects with armed drones and fighter jets, according to American officials.

The acceleration of the American campaign in recent weeks comes amid a violent conflict in Yemen that has left the government in Sana, a United States ally, struggling to cling to power. Yemeni troops that had been battling militants linked to Al Qaeda in the south have been pulled back to the capital, and American officials see the strikes as one of the few options to keep the militants from consolidating power.
