Osama bin Laden Declared Dead

Re: Osama bin Laden Declared Dead

So, you're saying that as soon as we caught bin Laden, we should have pulled out of the two countries the next day?

Still waiting on that super duper 5 year plan...

I already answered several of your questions...and until you have a dialog and answer just one of mine, its not worth it. I've learned conservatives often get the point where they just ask endless questions...as many are incapable of defending themselves.

And no, we still shouldn't be in Afghanistan nor Iraq...and whether you see it or not, this opinion has been reinforced by the fact that OBL is dead.

Re: Osama bin Laden Declared Dead

Agree on Iraq, but I disagree on Afghanistan. *Completely* withdrawing from that country would almost certainly put everything right back where it was 10 years ago - a country run by the Taliban, a group that actively supports and shelters terrorists bent on waging war with us. At minimum, we need to maintain a very active drone presence over there, and it would also probably be wise to maintain a significant presence of operatives to keep an eye on things. The last thing we need to do is to allow the country to once again be a terrorist haven.

What question of yours would you like answered?

Again, I have no problem with us pulling out over there, but you still haven't offered any explanation of how us killing bin Laden reinforces that point.

Any time you'd like to reveal your super duper plan, I'm eager to hear it. Until then, see ya.

You're just not following the logic. I've had a few of these conversations in the past so let me try and help you out a bit.

There are no bones in ice cream so kumquats are good for your health. Also, you don't need to inflate hockey pucks and as such ALL CONSERVATIVES ARE THE SOURCE OF ALL EVIL.

Um, good?

Really nice question, BBC.

And immediately the right-wing Echo Chamber attacked him for threatening the sovereignty of a foreign nation. "So poor Musharraf, he wakes up today, and he learns that Barack Obama wants to invade his country. He wants to take the troops out of Iran and invade Pakistan."

OK...again to explain:

We went to Afghanistan to punish OBL as he was caused 9/11.
He was not there.
He is now dead.
We are still in Afghanistan
Therefore, I am not happy because we spent the better part of a decade even though he wasn't even there
...and there are no changes even though he's dead.
What is there to not understand?

By saying this is 'stupid'...you infer that we should be there and not for Bin Laden.

Outside of Bob, I can't remember a conservative answer a tough question to defend themself on this board.

If you're up to it...please identify your valid reason and justify the use of a trillion dollars and thousands of deaths not in defense of this country.

Thats the only reason? or was it a breeding ground for terrorists and their training grounds?

Hindsight is 20-20

That, and I really think to truely tame Afghanistan, we're going to have to invest in a lot of infrastructure there to get things done. Schools, roads, bridges, tunnels, rail, and heck, probably even a pipeline or two to get some of the oil out of the Central Asian States. Putting in some of that would pump a lot of good money into the area, and making that rugged country a little more easier to cross, means that some of the tribal areas will be able to move around a little more, and be a little less quick to be so insulted at the drop of a hat. Not going to happen overnight there, but moving a few mountains there would help them move in the right direction.

And there will be ten years from now. It will take a generation once we leave...no difference from Vietnam.

Regardless, thank you for being the only poster on the boards to actually engage.

Meanwhile, in the fever swamp, Noam thinks OBL was "murdered."

ok - so what would Chomsky and his co-writer say if mengele were found alive in the 80's in Brazil, and the CIA or Mossad killed him. That would be murder? I don't get it. and a violation of what law or laws is Chomsky talking about? violating a country's sovereignty by going in to get the murderers? so isn't harboring a terrorist and mass murderer a violation of "international" law? I mean who is the arbiter of this nonesense.

OBL needed to be eliminated period. as does Zawahri, Mullah Omar (if in fact he survived the alledged assasination this week), and awlaki. they've all planned murders that have reached into the thousands. if we violate someone's sovereignty to get these guys...EDIT - shouldn't this be self-explanatory? it's embarrassing that pakistan "didn't know" Bin Laden was sitting 1 mile from a military compound for 5-6 EFFING YEARS.

anyway, let's say we captured OBL and put him on trial. just where in america would you find an "impartial" jury? AND...what if you did find 12 dip****s to let him go?

The upshot is that it's not like that is a highly disjointed rehash of every mindless complaint that was made about three weeks ago. Some real cutting edge stuff right there. Old man needs to get with the times.

Edit: I might as well just stay ahead of the curve and point out that someone is already working on the talking point saying "Obama was criticized by one of his heroes."

Only question is: which media hand sock will say it first?
