I found that Duvel has a gift set, too. Comes with 1 brandy-snifter-type glass. Of course I bought it. :D

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Tried the New Belgium Frambozen last night. It's a raspberry brown ale. Quite tasty, and the fruit taste is far from overpowering. It's done right.

Arcadia Ales Barrel Aged Shipwreck Porter

This is the first bourbon barrel-aged beer I've had that has a strong and distinctive bourbon flavor. Definitely worth a try if you find it, but be prepared to spend. It was $7.50 for one 12 oz. bottle, but I bought it as a birthday present to myself/pity present for Tech's loss tonight.

Attn: Twin Cities folk

Try the Summit Winter Ale. It's solid (malty, not over-hoppy like most Summits, good flavor and mouthfeel, maybe a hint of spice.)

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Winter Ale is pretty decent. It's a run of the mill winter ale IMHO. Worth trying.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

For the weekend picked up Tallgrass IPA, 21st Amendment Live Free or Die, Schell's Bock and Duvel Belgian Golden.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Had Left Hand Milk Stout (excellent as always) and Rush River Lyndale Brown (would have been better if I were a hops fan) tonight.

Meh on Tallgrass, lemme know about 21st, Schell's is awesome, and Duvel is awesomer.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Agree on the Tallgrass, although it's not terrible for the price at Sid's. The 21st is awesome. Not overpowing at all and a very solid, drinkable IPA.

BTW, did you go with the Duvel gift pack with the glass? If not, then fail!

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

The bar we found for NYE made a damm good Bourbon Old Fashioned. So I drank Maker's Old Fashioned all night...so effing tasty.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Somehow found myself out of whiskey last night  Don't know how that happened. Only thing in the house was Amaretto. For those of you still unsure at this point, let the record show that:

Amaretto < whiskey

:(

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Stop the presses! Found half a bottle of Beefeater hidden way in the back. Now I'm enjoying a real drink before dinner tonight, instead of Amaretto and whatever.

Amaretto/vodka on the rocks is good. Also amaretto and coffee.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

If the Amaretto is Disaronno, it isn't that bad. It isn't as good as a good whiskey, but its not a bad liquor.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Tried a couple of interesting beers over the holidays.

Peeper Ale - Maine Brewing Company. Excellent small batch American Pale Ale. Rated as exceptional (92) by Beer Advocate. Enjoyed this one a lot.

Iron Mike Pale Ale - Moat Mtn. Brew (NH) - 24oz can ("everybody likes a big can!") I could see having more than a few of these on a hot summer day.

Wells Banana Bread Beer (had this at the British Beer Company in Franklin MA). Hmmm, interesting. Strong banana bread aroma, and you can certainly taste it. A one and done (wouldn't order it again)

Had a couple from a Sam Adams variety pack. Loved the "Black and Brew" coffee stout, thought the Chocolate Bock was pretty good, but the Holiday Porter didn't work for me.

Found a great little store in Fryeburg ME, "The Good Beer Store" (isn't "good beer" redundant for the most part? ) Great selection, owner's were very nice. Right on Rt 302 at the ME-NH state line.

I thought the Black & Brew was spectacular.
