Oh. My. God.

Went to the place called "John's Grocery" in Iowa City. The beer selection......my Parise. I think I got a chubby. A link to the beer selection (sort of) is below. It just links to the FIRST style they carry. Click on the other styles on the page to see those selections.

And my buddy decided to buy Cedar Ridge (IA) Unaged Whiskey. It's clear. And 100 Proof. He was all amazed that it's clear. I told him that's because it's friggin' moonshine. Nothing good will come of this bottle.

Edit: my buddy's wife smelled it: "It smells like PAINT."

Awesome job outta you. Your buddy, not so much - he might as well have bought Aristocrat. :p

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

My buddy's reaction after tasting it: "This tastes like regret waiting to happen."

My reaction: Actually not bad. It's like vodka/whiskey. Not that I would ever buy it.

For the beer, picked up Ayinger Oktoberfest. I need to go back tomorrow after the beer-shock settles down, and choose some random individual bottles or something.

I tried to get stuff I never heard of, or had no English on them, etc. It was really tough to "limit" my purchase to just this small sample, though. :( The only one above I have heard of is Konings Hoeven, but I had not seen the bock before, hence the purchase.

Cracked the Straffe Hendrik Quad.

It's pretty darn good.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Drinking a Starr Hills Northern Lights IPA here at the airport bar. Not particularly bad for my non-beer-connoisseur tastes. Has a bit of citrusy taste to it, and is a little hoppy, but it's NPB.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Aside from saving it for the right occasion, is there a reason to sit on The Darkness and is there limit on even that?

Depends. How much are you paying him?

I keed, I keed. I have no idea. I know for the Goose Island beers (Pepe Nero, Night Stalker, and Big John) there was really no difference when I tried the first round after buying them, and then the 2nd round about 7-8 months later.

Brilliant.

Four Roses Single Barrel

For 100 proof bourbon, I don't think it gets any smoother. I'm drinking it neat.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

As mentioned in the Rep Lodge, the holiday gift sets are out. Maker's has a couple glasses with the bottoms dipped in wax, Glenlivet 12 has a sort of tulip/bulb glass without the stem/base (really cool looking glasses), and Crown has the usual glasses they have every year. I thought I saw one (can't remember what kind) that came with a flask.

Also, the winter brews are starting to appear. New Belgium's is decent (they dumped the 2 Below, the new recipe is called Snow Day). Schell's Snowstorm is a Wee Heavy Ale.

I think it is Johnnie Black.

I already have the Maker's holiday pack. I saw it at the booze store and had to buy it.
