Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Had a New Glarus Raspberry Tart (more of a framboise than a beer, I suppose) and a Crispin cider with dinner last night.

A little fruity? Sure. But it went excellently with the meal.

I was curious about the NG......and I do like a good framboise.

I could swear, they must put about a pound of raspberries in each bottle, so it certainly lives up to both the 'Raspberry' and the 'Tart' in its name. And I thought it was very smooth, without being thin. Very nice drink.

Thanks for the review!

Shipyard Pumpkin Beer on deck for tonight (to be served with cinnamon sugar on the rim of the glass).

Someone told me to its extra special good if you drop a shot of vanilla (either liqueur or schnapps????) in with the beer.

Happy Oktoberfest!

I had never been able to find KBC at Northgate Liquor before. Turns out it was because I wasn't looking in the Canadian beer section, where they have it stocked.

They have started to stock it fairly recently. I only found it the last time I was there, the time before that I scoured the beer coolers and it wasn't there.

It's kind f funny seeing the distribution on the map. No Utah, Oklahoma or Upper Pennisula :p but available on the east coastfe Georgia to Maryland.

That's odd; I could swear I've seen Fat Tire in the northeast but this says it's not available around here.
And Molson Canadian is odd. Smells really skunky*, but isn't bad at all.

*Buddy: it smells like sh*.
Us: It's supposed to smell like that. It's normal. And it tastes pretty good!
Buddy: *ing Canadians.
I can't get over that smell. Molson XXX is great for getting you drunk, but other than that I will always take any Labatt product over any Molson product.

Had some really good cocktails on Friday. I love a nice cocktail.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

I picked up a sixer of Summit Unchained Belgian Style Abbey Ale to drink during Tech's opener tonight. Holy crap is this some good beer.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

For the roadie to Green Bay this weekend I decided to try a 6-er of Blonde Bombshell from Southern Star Brewing.... Pretty much an impulse buy...

Also picked up a 6-er of Moose Drool for $3 because the cardboard package was ruined by a spill.... Interested to see how that goes... Bottles look clean, so I think it's worth the risk...

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Picked up two bombers of Unibroue's La Fin Du Monde (each bottle comes with a special glass). One for each Gopher hockey game this weekend.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Found a new mid-priced distillery at my store tonight - Redemption. They make a bourbon, a "high-rye" bourbon, and a 95% rye whiskey. The "high-rye" bourbon is "JC rye". The pure rye is, "OMMFG RYE!11!!".

Personally, I liken rye in whiskey to hops in beer. Rye adds a floral/bitter taste that you either like or don't. I like it, but the Redemption Straight Rye is like a double IPA - you either really like it or really don't. I'm a fan, but not all the time (just like an IIPA). When I want a really rough rye, I think this is it (slightly cheaper than Sazerac Rye, but virtually the same taste).

I'm still undecided on rye. It's good, but....I dunno. I don't think I'll buy another bottle.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Considering you're a guy who doesn't like hoppy beer, I have to ask which brand of rye you bought?

Templeton.

It's just too different from what I'm used to. That's all. I'll have a glass, if offered, but I'd rather spend my money on stuff I really like.

I rarely ever drink bourbon anymore. I've shifted to scotch now that I've figured out which scotches I really like.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Canadian Club Sherry Cask; this used to be my late uncle's favorite (with a nice cigar, in his case). Personally, this is one of the few whiskeys that I find is greatly improved by a cube of ice (and he always did drink his on the rocks). It's medium-sweet, but it's got a little bite and a bit of a cream sherry finish, plus it doesn't have the heavy-handed yeast flavor of Jim Beam Black. Sadly, I think I like this better than almost all of the Irish whiskeys I've tried as well :o (Redbreast being the exception, but it's twice the price).

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Thursday afternoon is the start of my drinking week. Had a Sixpoint Sweet Action. One of my favorite beers, sort of a unique style, and a great all-around brewery. Followed up with a Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale. Decent, kind of strong on the spice. Middle of the road as far as New England pumpkin beers go... a lot better than Shipyard Pumpkinass, but not as good as a Cambridge Great Pumpkin. Next up, maybe a Rogue Mocha Porter or Brooklyn Oktoberfest, or both.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Came to work today to find that my employees bought me one each of Blanton's Single Barrell, Woodford Double Oaked and Buffalo Trace for my birthday. :)
