Maybe it's different for different areas of the country?

I think you're talking about the gift packs in stores and I'm talking about the gifts that Maker's sends to people who cough up email and mailing addresses to them.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Yep, that's it.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Yep, that's it.

And the Maker's gifts are halfway decent. The ice cube tray goes for $20 most places and showing up to a sweater party with a bottle in a relatively matching sweater got plenty of laughs last year.

:D I bet!

I should look into those promotions. I like free stuff.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

I usually despise giving out my email (junk email account I use for bill-paying/promos/etc), but may consider this.

They're pretty good. I only use one email address and I could count the stuff Maker's has sent me on my fingers. It's pretty much Derby and holiday season stuff from them.

On a different note, has anyone else gotten an invite to caskers.com?

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Something bad is going on, man. Two weeks ago my liquor store upped the price of Elijah Craig by two bucks. "Ha ha!" I said to the owner. "Word must've gotten out that one of the best tasting bourbons around should cost more than $17.99. Ha ha!" "Yeah," he said, "I don't know who's losing money on that, but it is pretty amazing."

Then, last week, they were all out of stock. "Sorry," the guy said. "We should have more next week."

Now it's next week, and they still don't have any. "Distributor just doesn't have any," they said.

I don't like the looks of this. It took me a long (nice, but long) journey to find that sweet price/quality double-whammy spot. Maybe I should put something in the Prayers thread.

Went out on a limb....bought a bottle of Cabo Wabo Anejo...I never thought tequila could taste this good. Wow.

Yea... Sammy Hagar has done a nice job with Cabo as a whole (although I believe he sold off most of his stake in the company several years ago).... Not a big tequila fan, but what they offer is quite enjoyable... Definitely shows the difference between what you buy with $15 in college and much of the higher end of what's out there... Well worth the investment... Love the sweeter side of the Anejo....

Aged tequila, if you're willing to shell out for a good one, is quite tasty.

This Col. E.H. Taylor Single Barrel Bourbon, on the other hand, I grossly overpaid for. Tastes like Buffalo Trace, for almost three times the price . At least it's helping me forget Duluth's 7 goals tonight. :(

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

bbdl gave me a couple cans of Broken Tooth Chugach Session (AK). Tried one with dinner tonight. It'll put hair on your chest. It's like a kick in the face. Definitely an acquired taste, and this taste...dunno if I want to acquire it. Wow.

I feel your pain. You are in my prayers.

I also agree with this best buy award. I keep the Evan handy for mixing (egg nog later this week) and, shall we say, my not so refined visitors. Good bourbon at a great price.

ETA: finished off a bottle of William Larue Weller over Thanksgiving. I was very thankful. Buy it if you can.

This is ridiculously good. Not for the faint of heart though at $20 for the 4 and 15% ABV. The remaining 3 will sit in the cellar as they are good for 5 years if held correctly:

I also picked up the Leini Vanilla Porter which is fine for a Leine (and at a decent price) but nothing I will be in a hurry to buy again.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Took the tour of Stranahan's Colorado Straight Whiskey distillery today. Unlike many beer tours, it was NOT dumbed down. They were explaining the chemical reactions (with proper scientific names and such),etc. Darn good whiskey too. Worth it.

Also had Bristol Brewery X-Mas Ale. If Christmas had a taste, this is it. Excellent offering. Unfortunately, it is only available in- house (CO Springs).
