NHL 2024: SLC Puck

Utah Raptors would be perfect, since that’s an actual animal. But it seems like that was never an option, probably due to Toronto. Which is annoying because they’re only named that because of the hype from Jurassic Park.

Raptors is almost as bad as Mighty Ducks, for the same reason.

Infantalize your team and make them risibly dated within 5 years at the same time. At least "Expos" was a cool name.

US lost to Sweden in the IIHF opener 5-2. Closed it to 3-2 before a couple empty netters.

US is back against Germany today at 2:20 ET. It looks like ESPN+ has all of the non-Canada/USA games.

US beats Germany 6-1. Augustine gets some action in net as Lyon went out with a hand injury. Sounds like his hand got stepped on. Also looked like Augustine was wearing his pants from the WJC because it was a way lighter blue than everyone else's.

They played better today against a decent German team than yesterday against a favorite in Sweden.

The schedule for the US is a bit strange: Sweden and Germany in a back to back then Slovakia on Monday before facing the chaff in France, Poland, Kazakhstan, and Latvia.

Also noticed that if the US miraculously won gold, Augustine and Leonard will have won gold at the U18, Junior, and Senior levels in basically 12-13 months.

They’ve been racking up the hardware. U18 and WJC golds, and both got conference regular season and conference tournament championships. Augustine also won the B1G tournament MVP and both were second team all conference.

I’m not sure when it happened, but Nedelijkovic was added as the third goalie, so that’ll be interesting going forward how the depth chart works itself out. Also appears you need to have history with the Red Wings to be a goalie on this team.

how ironic are the BUrins trying to be with the disgust they claim to hold for the little ball of hate getting the hard end of a so called cheap shot?!?!

I like Black Diamonds too, but I think it'll be rejected as being too similar to Golden Knights. 'Yeti' has good rhythm with Utah. Mountaineers sounds like they didn't even try and I'd rather they go with Outlaws if they go more generic. It keeps with the sinning theme of Utah teams for the lulz, particularly since they will share a new building with the Jazz. It fits within the context of history as well (the Mormon Wars, polygamy, et al).

utah morons ;)

Bruins may be getting hosed here but I’m finding it hard to have sympathy for a team that rolls out Marchand year after year

that goal shoulda been called back tho

US loses to Slovakia 5-4 in OT. Kind of a miracle they managed to get to OT considering Slovakia led 4-1 going into the third.

Not a good look though to play the two best teams in the group in Sweden and Slovakia and only get one point.

I think I'm out on the Bruins until this management structure is ousted. They do precisely nothing to respond to some of the most horrendous officiating I've seen in years, including their captain being concussed by an obvious stick-in-hand punch to the face by a guy who does that rather regularly. The fan blowback was so loud that the GM schedules a noon press conference. With him he brings their short-termer goon and no one else. And he immediately scolds the media for asking the coach about the insane goal call, and then says "no, we don't complain in public".

This is the same bunch of idiots that signed Mitchel Miller, and then was stunned by the backlash. And when they self-investigated, determined that they did nothing wrong.

Year after year of the same stupid mistakes, the same absolute refusal to call out atrocious officiating, the same cement head "old school" approach to team building. I don't even know if I'll bother to watch them lose tomorrow. It's a joke of an organization, in a joke of a league. Mario Lemieux is one of the least self-aware people on Earth, but he was 100% correct when he called the NHL a "Garage League", and nothing has changed.

Only 3300 in Minnesota tonight for the PWHL Playoffs. I realize it's a Monday night but that's an oof.

It's always a good time to play the second most-beautiful national anthem.
