NHL 2024: SLC Puck

Valeri Nichushkin re-enters the player assistance program at Stage 3 (for violating terms of previous agreement) and is suspended for at least six months.

US loses to Slovakia 5-4 in OT. Kind of a miracle they managed to get to OT considering Slovakia led 4-1 going into the third.

Not a good look though to play the two best teams in the group in Sweden and Slovakia and only get one point.

I’m not sure what they do for goaltending going forward. Nedeljkovic got ran in the 2nd period after giving up 4. Now they have four should-be blowouts coming up (except maybe Latvia, but that should still be a win). They’ve had to go to Augustine twice now and he’s held his own, so you could play him the rest of the way to prep him for the knockout round. Or you play Nedeljkovic and get him refreshed against lesser teams. Or you go half and half as a goalie battle but I’m not sure how much you’ll get out of that given the competition.

Leah Hextall is the only boobs on a stick sideline sports reporter I have ever seen who was remotely attractive.

I’m pretty sure that’s not their goal.

Their goal is to cash a check.

Their employers' goal is to grab the eyeballs of gap-toothed drooling perverts who see women as objects for their sick wish-fulfillment fantasies.

In this instance, their employer delivered for me. Good for them.

Yesterday Austria scores five in the 3rd to take Canada to OT before losing 7-6. Today they score two in the third, the last with one second left, to beat Finland 3-2.

Would it be too much to ask for Boston to continue Sherman's march down to Florida and wipe the other confederate cringe cretins out?

A Boston-New York eastern final would be outstanding.

I make no predictions about the Bruins at this point. I don't think they're as good as Florida and that, considering my expectations for the team last fall, making it to the second round is a smashing success.

I want a game 7 because more hockey is better than less hockey. I want a win because winning is awesome and losing sucks and also F anything that has anything to do with that third world country we call Florida.

US struggles for 40 minutes against Poland but eventually pulls away for a 4-1 win. A penalty filled first and then Poland’s goalie was a brick wall.

Kazakhstan and Latvia left before the knockout round.

US beat Kazakhstan 10-1 this morning. Gaedreau becomes the career leading point-scorer for the US in World Championship history and Brock Nelson ties the career record for most goals for the US in the World Championships.

Gaudreau catching strays online for breaking the record. A lot of “well it’s because he never made the playoffs!” which really has nothing to do with it. He’s just had good performances when he’s played (with a good chunk of his points coming before his NHL career in 2014). Know whose record he broke? Patrick Kane.

I mean, I did have the same thought. Not a knock on him, just a reality of the situation. Crosby has only played in two WC. Larkin has been on much of the same track. He and Gaedreau came in within a point or two of each other and both would've played in their first tourney since 2019 had Larkin not had to drop out this year.

Very good chance that Austria advances and Finland goes home before the knockout round. Finland has Denmark and Switzerland left with the Swiss still fighting for seeding against Czechia, while Austria has Britain. Currently tied and if they end tied Austria holds the tiebreaker.

Two relegation battles tomorrow. In Group B is Poland and Kazakhstan. If Poland wins in regulation they stay, and Kazakhstan just needs to take it OT. In Group A it's between Norway and Britain. Britain technically has another chance to earn points, but as said above, Austria also will be playing hard for a spot in the knockout round. Britain likely needs to win it in regulation to move on.
