Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

Wife and I saw Social Network yesterday, and as much as we enjoyed it (in fact I thought it was fantastic) we agreed that if we're only going to see 3-4 movies a year in the theater we should probably reserve it for flicks that scream, "Big Screen!!!!!".

That's what I do, especially when it's dam near $7 for a matinee, and $10+ for a regular showing.

I do the same thing. I saw Inception this summer (twice)...cant remember the last one before that. I just saw Jacka.$$ 3D (come on..that so screams BIG SCREEN) and the next ones I plan on are True Grit and Tron:Legacy. So yeah, Id say Im in the 3-5 range too in a typical year.

Machete twice, Inception, and yeah that's it.

Wouldn't mind Jackarse3D, but won't go nuts for it.

We see 25-30 movies a year in theaters, mostly because we now live 10 miles from the nearest town. Once we move, we'll probably see 45-50. It's a very fun thing to do.

Das Boot (3:29 version)

*ing amazing. Everything from the short bursts of frenetic action to the drawn out periods of the crew simply waiting. Loved the different points of view of the different main characters, and the captain did an outstanding job in his role.

I did have to laugh at the fact that the Lieutenant (the propaganda guy) was a dead ringer for CHA. :D

Eh, not at the rate ticket prices have gone up while home theater options continue to decline in price. It'd cost my wife and me $20 to goto a new movie, without including popcorn or pop. We can goto a 2nd run movie for $5 (again, not including concessions) which make those a reasonable option.

But we can sit at home and watch a netflix rental for about a buck fifty including popcorn, or can go buy a movie for $10 or less if we think we're gonna want to watch it multiple times.

Last movie I paid full price to see on the big screen was, I think, Star Trek.

Edit: No check that, saw the Expendables this year with a bunch of friends at a theater that sells alcohol. That was also part of a bachelor party too, though.

AMC is $5 after 7 during the week. anyone can afford that.

Nowhere to go but up...

Hopefully the "Darker Equals Profound" teen weenie fad has run its course. Nolan is a force magnifier on the quality of the script, so the writer is really all that matters.

Edit: it's Goyer. Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch'entrate.

Do you think it makes you sound smarter when you post in other languages...because honestly it makes you look kind of like an arrogant doosh if you ask me :D ;)

If being called an arrogant doosh could expunge every last copy of TDK from the face of the earth, I would take that in a heartbeat. ;)

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

It can't...though the irony of your opinion of people that love that movie and how you represent yourself is classic. :)

That seems a bit cheap to me, how about you becoming a cock-swallowing prison beytch to every man behind bars for life, then we can start thinking about removing all copies of the goodness that is The Dark Knight from Earth. Just as long as we have a copy on the International Space Station, we'll be all right!

Hey, there's nothing wrong with them. We've all been 14 and recognize that adolescence is an important stage in maturation. ;)

Channeling your inner-Sloe Gin are ya, big? A little agressive there. ;)

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

There was some talk earlier on about how Zuckerburg has said Social Network is pretty inaccurate and so on. Here is an article from Rolling Stone in '08 that includes a lot of public stuff he said and quotes from depositions that seem to back up the basics of the movie and the book it was based on. (minus some details like Parkers involvement, when the split with Severin came...etc)

Very interesting read.
