New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

Black Mask is the one that makes the most sense to me.

Agreed here. Hush would be interesting but requires a megaton of back story for him to make sense. Black Mask could be worked in very easily and Thomas Hardy playing him would be very fun.

Black Mask is about the only character I think works with the amount of mob background that has been used so far. Hush requires too much work and would have to be completely rewritten.

Rumors of casting calls for women have been circulating perhaps for Catwoman or Harley Quinn...but we know how nerds are ;)

How could you have Harley without the Joker? Sure you could do it with Ivy, but without the Joker there's no reason for those two to get together. Although I'm unsure how she and Ivy came to be friends in the comic book continuity. In her original canon for the DCAU it was the Joker being a total *** that drove her to partner up with Ivy after leaving to be solo.

Catwoman by herself can't carry a movie. So if she was in there they would probably pull a Batman Returns and have a main villain she revolves around.

I think a more interesting one would be Andrea Beaumont, the Phantasm. It could easily continue the mob theme as well as play on a character like Bruce but not.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

Well (and believe me I hate this idea) I think the story would be Harley was inspired by the Joker and in his absence tries to carry on his legacy of chaos. Poison Ivy would be nowhere near it. (thank god she does not translate well to movie)

Personally I hope for Talia, but that is just me :)

That would suck horrendously. Might as well just use an OC then.

Ivy wouldn't translate well into the Nolan version of Batman since in her popular incarnation she has super powers.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

These movies tend to work better if the villainy on the screen taps into a current social villain. I don't know if a retro film noir big city mob does that in this atmosphere. The idea of a suicidal lunatic is much more, er, appealing. What's the great terror of the age? A suitcase from Allah. Deracinate/dereligiousize it and you have a fear worthy of a superhero's catharsis.

If you want that watch the previous one.

The more I think about it the better the Phantasm would be, it continues the whole theme of villians or characters that reflect Batman, it can be big and theatric without needing to be unrealistic. There's also a possible love interest and her nightly activities could be kept seperate until a big reveal at the end. Obviously some kind of love interest is going to be the theme since they killed off the previous generic piece of eye candy.

If you want that watch the previous one.

I would if it were watchable and not burdened with the conjoined plot-foetus of Two-Face Begins.

A well-written, well-directed, well-acted Scarecrow movie could have worked. We'll never know.

The best thing about a Phantasm movie would be a chance for Abe Vigoda to recreate a role. :)

Just watched Top Gun. Excellent as always.

Now The Terminator is on. I forgot the future was set in 2029. That's no so far in the future!

There was a time when Linda Hamilton was very, very cute. And that time was 1984.

Just got out of a midnight showing of "Unstoppable" tonight. A great action flick, and they don't have to wow you with a lot of special effects in it. Just a great movie to go watch.

Tried gamely to get into Walking Dead, but eventually zombied out midway through the second episode. Formulaic, cliche, very disappointing given they had strong material to work from.

And they canned Rubicon in favor of this... :(

"The Grand"

Mockumentary focusing on 6 poker players playing in the biggest tournament in the world, which is covered by a major sports network.

*ing hilarious. I was in tears I was laughing so hard. Great ensemble cast, and has some poker pros in there too, most noticeably Phil Gordon, who is friggin' comedy gold in his role as one of the commentators. I really can't recommend this movie enough. I heard about it from a buddy, didn't expect much. Thought it would be the run of the mill satire, but the little nuances in the game of poker and the coverage of said game that come into play are definitely there and add that deeper level of humor. Now, maybe it's because I play and watch a ton of poker, I dunno. Either way, this is a must-own in my book.

I never saw that (I wanted to). I take it it was good?

When SyFy canned Caprica my scream was audible in Portugal.

I thought it was. I still haven't caught up completely but now I don't feel the need to for obvious reasons.

Don't you try to silence me you fascist. :D
