New/Rented movies: Here comes the movie to change all movies

Re: New/Rented movies: Here comes the movie to change all movies

In the middle of "The Mist" right now.

It's almost doing the story justice, but there's some bad acting going on, that's for sure.

About halfway through it right now, but obviously it's not capturing my attention like other King movies ("Misery," for example).
Shut up and wait for the end.

Shut up and wait for the end.

That was f'ed up...kinda surprised the studio let them do that.

Agree with brent, the acting was bad. But I think it's still one of the better adaptions of King's horror stories (as opposed to Shawshank, Green Mile, and Stand By Me).

"Cujo" was horrible. "Christine" was okay for its time. "It" ruled.

I did like the ending, but I can't say I loved the movie. I guess when I read the story as a kid (and re-read many times in the years after) my imagination made it a bit more suspenseful/horrifying.

That movie makes me involuntary hate Marcia Gay Harden every time I see her in something.

She was one of the few bright spots of acting in that movie.

I agree, I hated her. But, that was the point, she made me involved in the character. ;)

Oh yeah, I agree fully, I didn't mean I hated her acting, but the character she did a solid job of portraying.

Ah, got it. Yep, that's about it. Reminded me of a better job from Meryl Streep in "Doubt," although who could really touch Streep?

Re: New/Rented movies: Here comes the movie to change all movies

Due to the recent postings, I started thinking of stuff I read in grade school....thought of Shogun by James Clavell. Netflix has it! Ya, you think that ain't in my queue now? Awesome! Shogun rules.

Re: New/Rented movies: Here comes the movie to change all movies

So I was poking around the interwebs today and saw that there is a possibility of sequels to Independence Day...I dont have the words for that...well nothing positive ;)

http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/16760/will-smith-to-do-two-id4-sequels

That is the article that discusses Will Smith signing to do back to back sequels to the film...
I give it a 95% chance of sucking, and 5% chance of being cool.

If they do it right, say by setting it 15 years in the future where there's a long drawn ground war between the humans and the surviving aliens, it could work. But Hollywood rarely does sequels right.

Re: New/Rented movies: Here comes the movie to change all movies

That is the ONLY chance it has of working and even that would take some serious work...plus in the first didnt the President (as he was Vulcan Mind Melded with the one alien) say their entire civilization went planet to planet looking for resources? I always assumed that meant they were pretty much destroyed, unless they fanned out and split up.

Whatever, it will suck and they will reboot it so who cares ;)

Possiable, didn't think the aliens really had any ground vehicles and most of their fighters were in the air when we took out the mother ship and the smaller city sized ones. Those fighters would still be nasty to deal with, but they wouldn't have a really good base to refuel or relax at either.

Ignoring all the plot holes and inherent implausabilities from the first one...

You have 15-mile diameter ships falling maybe 20,000 feet, if that, to the ground. Certainly a decent amount of the crew should have survived. And given that the American military jets needed a miracle to finish off one, it's plausible that other city ships survived the first wave. And only idiots would not have any ground based weapons on board (ok, given that a single nuke destroyed a moon-sized mothership, maybe they were that stupid - but that goes back to having to ignore the black-hole sized plot holes).

Even though they didnt fall far they were exploding from the inside when their weapon basically fired back in on itself. So its very possible that much if not all the crew perished in the initial explosions if not from the fires afterward.

You mean like how all you need to defeat an alien race that is centuries ahead of us technologically is a simple virus and an Apple Computer? ;)

Never, ever doubt the power of Steve Jobs.

I was ticked when I left the theater after watching that crap.

So you're debating the realities of a marginal 'sci-fi-ish' movie and what it would take for a realistic sequal? This forum needs a 'rotf' smiley.

This thread jumped the shark long ago. This line of discussion is about all you get here anymore anyway. :p
