As for who needs to be in it, Sir Ian as Gandalf is a must as is Lee IMHO. Lee is a LOTR freak, he reads it once a year and knows as much about Tolkien as anyone...plus Saruman Dooku is awesome! :D

If I recall correctly, when the LOTR movies were out I read that Lee was the only person associated with the movies who had actually met Tolkien.
