Re: New/Rented movies: Here comes the movie to change all movies

Curious on your opinion of Boondock Saints 2, haven't seen it (though I do own, but haven't seen, the original).

I saw it in the theatre and thought it was pretty good. Not quite as awesome as the first one but still pretty good. Definitely watch the first one first.

You mean like how all you need to defeat an alien race that is centuries ahead of us technologically is a simple virus and an Apple Computer? ;)
Yeah, in the squeal, they'll be able to do that with just an Ipad now. Product placement ad right?? ;)

Phase One: Watch all the Kevin Smith movies (except Jersey Girl) in order.
Phase Two:
Phase Three: Laugh.
Jersey Girl isn't a Kevin Smith Movie. Some Idiot at Miramax paid Kevin Smith a boatload of cash so they could put Directed by Kevin Smith in the credits for that Dreck..... :p

Well I was told not to watch that movie anyways. But I've already seen it.

Re: New/Rented movies: Here comes the movie to change all movies

Well you got

Clerks 1994 ......37! In a row?
Chasing Amy 1997 .....So do you get turned on by just looking in the mirror?
Mallrats 1995 .....Right when jaws pops out of the water.
Dogma 1999 .....Finks! You're all finks!
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back 2001 ....Oh no, the C.L.I.T.'s real. It's the female orgasm that's a myth.
and then Clerks 2 2006
Fanboy, you got the order wrong.

Of course, there are a few other movies mixed in there, too - documentaries, Zach & Miri, and such, but those are the movies that feature the core group of characters and mostly the same actors. Don't expect great acting, on the whole. His movies are about the dialogue and stupid scenarios in which you find the characters.

And it looks like he has a couple movies coming out this year, Cop Out and Red State.

We're talking the ViewAskewniverse. I thought Mallrats was before Chasing Amy, but I'm a moron.

Mallrats was second. In fact, Smith thinks that the critics received it so poorly because it followed Clerks, which he thinks critics gave too much praise.

For me, I remember the dates because Clerks and Mallrats were Junior and then Senior years in high school. Chasing Amy and Dogma were both while I was in college, and I had to look up the dates on the other two.

And I think Smith uses the name ViewAskew for all of his productions. Regardless, we are just talking the Jay and Silent Bob movies here.

Chasing Amy was the first Smith movie I saw, and to this day, I think it's his best (not favorite, but best overall). However, all of the ViewAskewniverse/Jay-Bob/etc movies rule.

Re: New/Rented movies: Here comes the movie to change all movies

Remember the order they came out in is NOT the order in which they take place. In fact the continuity makes no sense and Kevin Smith mocks it quite a bit. (for example Suzanne the monkey is in the end of Mallrats but isnt explained until Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Clerks takes place the day AFTER Mallrats and so on) BTW if you ever watch the original cut of Mallrats it makes more sense and is ten times better IMHO.

If you ever have a chance to see Kevin Smith live do it, the man is friggin hilarious!

FACT! Saw him in New Jersey last year or so and it was friggin' phenomenal. I'm ticked I didn't wear my Gretzky jersey to the thing because he was just getting into his Gretzky-worship phase and I probably would've got pulled on stage.

D'oh!

I saw him like 6 years ago on campus at U of M and nearly died laughing. He was at the student union and the bowling alley is right above the auditorium so when he heard som e people bowling he stopped mid sentence and said "what was that, is there a friggin bowling alley here...what the **** happened to my career I am playing in a bowling alley?!?!" He referenced it a lot. ;) He also talked a lot about his script for Superman, Joey Lauren Adams and how he loves Minnesota because they let him film Mallrats at the Eden Prairie Center :)

One of the best birthday presents I ever got :)

Re: New/Rented movies: Here comes the movie to change all movies

A Night With Kevin Smith does indeed rule (and all of its "sequels"). Hilarity. I love the Superman story, and obviously I have a special place for the Prince story.

Re: New/Rented movies: Here comes the movie to change all movies

Kevin Smith is a fun guy to shoot the **** with. An ex of his went to CMU long before I did and we had a good 10-15 minute conversation about Pittsburgh, CMU, etc.

He definitely appreciates fans too, because he *is* a fan so he gets it.

The second "Evening With" sucked as a DVD...I used to work with a relative of Prince and he loved the stories about Prince and basically confirmed it all which made me smile :)

Plus the DVDs are edited...seeing him unedited just ramble on about anything is ten times as awesome! He told a story about being stuck on a plane and being forced to watch Sweet Home Alabama that had us all rolling on the floor! :D

I thought All Saints Day was a complete failure. I thought it was a mockery of the first one and really tarnished everything that was great about the first one.

The only part that was even slightly interesting to me was the end. But, other than that. Major bore and I just found myself laughing at how poorly done it was and how they tried to force it on you with references to the first one.

It was just a very very poor showing. Bad acting, cheesy lines, cheesy characters, bad cameras...

It's never good when movies keep getting put off for years like All Saints Day was...They should have just left the original be a stand alone because honestly the second one completely ruined it for me.

Re: New/Rented movies: Here comes the movie to change all movies

Saw Clash of the Titans and enjoyed it a lot. There is some dialogue that was meh, but I think it's getting an unfair amount of hate from critics. It seemed to take a lot of influence from God of War, and honestly I think it's better than the original.

Medusa was great. That always bugged me about the original, she was just sooo slow, that it was hard to think that a group of soldiers wouldn't have been able to just overwhelm her. Here she was probably the most dangerous being. I believe she takes out six of the group. Calibos got about 3 (not as good a character design as the original), and the scorpions only got 2 iirc. Although the one guy the scorpion kills by repeatedly stabbing him with the stinger was awesome.

Bubo showing up was great.

I thought it started slow, but got better when the British rocker guy appeared after that guy's first scene in Hawaii.

ETA: Oh yeah, and there is far too much schlong in that movie. That's the second movie in which that guy has done full frontal flashes. I think he's trying to show off, a little guerrilla advertising to the ladies.
