NCAA Tournament Prognostications

Re: NCAA Tournament Prognostications

Doesn't matter that Utica is (ridiculously) ranked ahead of Plattsburgh. Utica's competing in a different pool. What IS important is that Oswego (justifiably) is ranked ahead of Plattsburgh. If Oswego were to lose Saturday, I think Plattsburgh might well leapfrog them. That would only be the case of course, if Trinity and St. Thomas win as well.

The way it reads to me is : Norwich, Babson, Trinity & Geneseo are in. The last spot is between Oswego & Plattsburgh. If Oswego loses I just don't know. The 2-0-1 record vs. Platty is significant. But we could just be like Norwich and ignore their loss to us !!

Utica jumping Plattsburgh is significant becuase it isn't Plattsburgh v. Oswego for the last spot. Now it's Utica v. Oswego for the last spot. Utica isn't getting the Pool B bid, so that makes them a Pool C candidate. That's assuming St. Norbert, St. Thomas, Geneseo, and Trinity all win their conference this weekend. And assuming there isn't a viable candidate out west for the last spot.

Re: NCAA Tournament Prognostications

It is 4-0 Plattsburgh over Utica in criteria. As lopsided as it gets. Of course they are in the Pool B contention. Getting in ahead of Plattsburgh without ANY points in criteria is just absurd. Read between the lines.

Re: NCAA Tournament Prognostications

I don't understand why the Cards fans are up in arms. When was the time the men in the smoked filled room left an ECAC West team out of the ranking to get a birth into the NCAA's, your team is the scape goat this year??????? You Card fans should be confused for your team wins just about every match up number wise except the one that counts. The number in the smoked filled room. Plus the NCAA wouldn't have 3 SUNYAC teams in if they can help it, but 3 ECAC West teams that is another story.

I'm scared to ask this...but you guys appear to either have Adrian 1) dead and buried, or 2) in, no matter what. Which is it? I, personally, think Adrian's in some trouble. If there's an upset or two, I think we're dead.

We'd put Adrian as in with a pool C

And why is Williams behind Platty?

Re: NCAA Tournament Prognostications

I'm curious. In the last Top 15 poll, SNC got all 20 first place votes. This week they got 19 with one voter opting to vote for last weeks #4 team, Norwich, which had a 4-3 victory against unranked Castleton (13-11-3). Meanwhile, SNC earns a 6-0 victory over Lake Forest (15-12-1).

If you have 1 of 20 votes, at least pretend to care. You can't give a team a 1st place vote one week and then pass it, after they win handedly the next week, to a team that squeaks by an unranked opponent.

They have alternate voters...so maybe this weeks poll included a pollster that didn't vote last week

Re: NCAA Tournament Prognostications

Polls do not matter. Now if someone could explain the NCAA rankings - go for it.

Yes I know d3hky already did, but it seems they are as befuddled as I am.

Re: NCAA Tournament Prognostications

Here are the locks:
Conference Winner Record
ECAC East Babson 22-4-2
ECAC NE Nichols 18-6-3
MASCAC Salem St 16-9-2
NESCAC Amherst/Bowdoin 17-7-3
SUNYAC Oswego 20-6-2
MIAC St. Thomas 21-4-2
NCHA St. Norbert 25-3-1
Pool B UW- Stevens Pt 20-5-2
Pool C Adrian 22-2-4
Pool C
Pool C

Bubble teams:
Utica 16-6-4
Norwich 19-6-3
Geneseo 21-6-0
Plattsburgh 19-5-2
Trinity 21-5-0
Wisconsin-Eau Claire 19-8-1

My guess is that Geneseo and Trinity go... Norwich and Eau Claire stay home.... Plattsburgh and Utica don't have a chance.

I see nothing to argue about with this. Oops, that's a first.

Re: NCAA Tournament Prognostications

Wow... I'm having a hard time imagining a NCAA tournament without Platty, Norwich, or anyone from the ECAC West... weird!!!

Reminded me of this ...
Dr. Peter Venkman: This tourney selection process is headed for a disaster of biblical proportions.
Mayor: What do you mean, "biblical"?
Dr Ray Stantz: What he means is Old Testament, Mr. Mayor, real wrath of God type stuff.
Dr. Peter Venkman: Exactly.
Dr Ray Stantz: Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Cardinals and Pioneers boiling!
Dr. Egon Spengler: Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes, Fishman...
Winston Zeddemore: 5th seeds rising from the grave!
Dr. Peter Venkman: Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!
Mayor: All right, all right! I get the point!

Re: NCAA Tournament Prognostications

Stevens Point is your Pool B. Geneseo stacks up well in the Pool B and should lock up one of the spots. There are four teams vying for 2 spots. Adrian, Trinity, Norwich & Plattsburgh. Although Adrian & Trinity have gaudy winning pct's, not sure if the committee will be sold on their SOS.

Plattsburgh & Norwich are close, I wouldn't be surprised to see any combination of those four teams. Plattsburgh could be victim of already having 2 SUNYAC teams. Trinity might be locked in as they were #1 East seed and it's hard to imagine they could drop out of it completely (however they did knock Plattsburgh down 4 spots in the last poll). None of the four lit it up against ranked teams. Those numbers will change with Williams dropping out and probably Amherst coming in.

My initial read was Geneseo, Adrian & Trinity. The longer I stare at the weak SOS and the lack of ranked opponent games, I lean away from that.
