NCAA Tournament Prognostications

Re: NCAA Tournament Prognostications

I stumbled across how crazy the selection process is for this tournament this week and became intrigued. On the D3 forum I saw the following:
Locked
1. St. Norbert
2. Babson
3. Nichols
4. Salem St.
5. St. Thomas
6. Oswego
On standby
1. Bowdoin
2. Amherst
3. Stevens Point
4. Utica
5. Geneseo
6. Norwich
7. Adrian
8. Plattsburgh
I know NOTHING about these teams (besides those from MN and WI), but based on the above do we know how many teams will be in the West bracket?

I would guess UST and UWSP play the play-in with the winner going to SNC. If Adrian gets in, it might go east. But there are others more learned than I...

Re: NCAA Tournament Prognostications

Either 3 or 4 from the West depending on if Adrian makes it. They could play at Geneseo or Oswego or stay west. My guess is St. Norbert, Stevens point, St. Thomas and Adrian play each other in the quarters with the two winners going to Lewiston. The 7 remaining teams are from the East. Oswego, Babson, NESCAC winner, Nichols & Salem State winning the AQ's. Two other Pool C bids will come from a mix of Norwich, Plattsburgh, Trinity & Geneseo. All subject to change without notice !!

So potentially only three teams in the West? Wouldn't that mean SNC has to play way fewer games to win it all?
EDIT: Admiral answered. Thanks! Seems like if three make it from the West, one goes to the Frozen Four, and if four make it, two go? So win one and go to Maine?

If it's an 8-3 split, SNC's next game would be next Saturday in an NCAA QF. 3 wins to a championship.

If Adrian gets in and stays west, it's an probably an automatic trip next Saturday to SNC. 500 mile rule.

I don't know what to think. I suspect Plattsburgh and Utica are both done. We might be, too.

Remember, 11 team tournament. There must be three play-in games on Wednesday night (?) to get the field to 8. So 5 teams get byes.

For $50 I'll slip a little fine Colorado herb into the smoke filled room, to make sure your Bulldogs make the dance. Of course Utica would probably make it in also, nobody wants to see that!

Yahoo (i know, unofficial) says 474 miles from Adrian to Stevens Point, so there could be flexibility. I would think given the loss that Adrian would be ranked lower than St. Thomas and would come to SNC, but it theroectically could be UST/SNC and AC/UWSP

For SNC, yes - one win and go to Maine. There could be a play-in and those teams would have to win two to advance to the final four.

Not to muddy more, but there could be four west teams but only one guaranteed spot in at the finals. That's because Adrian could go play with the eastern schools, given its location.

In that case, UWSP/UST on Wednesday, with the winner at SNC Saturday. Adrian then goes to a playin game out east.

But the other alternative - four west teams, two quarterfinal games on Saturday - is also possible,

Does that help?

Re: NCAA Tournament Prognostications

and that all presumes that UWEC doesn't sneak in, but that's unlikely.

Bonin - the WIAC does not have an automatic bid.,

Re: NCAA Tournament Prognostications

I think Adrian is in, 7-4 split, and the really tricky stuff will happen within the eastern committee. Trin-trin, geneseo, Norwich, and platty are all very close.

Yup, I had it all figured out. :) I've been spending a lot of time on that D3 website. Steven Points and St. Thomas will want Adrian to make it (current odds on that?), and to come west (gut feeling odds on that?)

western fans can only hope. If it doesn't happen, the joking complaint will be "eastern bias" but given Adrian's semi stumble and the sheer amount of more teams out east, it might be hard to complain too much that there aren't two western quarterfinal games.

Re: NCAA Tournament Prognostications

And a month ago we were talking about a 6-5 split for the West...
