NCAA Tournament Prognostications

If it's an 8-3 split, SNC's next game would be next Saturday in an NCAA QF. 3 wins to a championship.

If Adrian gets in and stays west, it's an probably an automatic trip next Saturday to SNC. 500 mile rule.

I don't know what to think. I suspect Plattsburgh and Utica are both done. We might be, too.

Geneseo & Oswego are within 500 miles of Adrian.

Re: NCAA Tournament Prognostications

This is my Guess
Pool A
1 ECAC East Babson
2 ECAC Northeast Nichols
3 MASCAC Salem State
4 NESCAC Amherst/Bowdoin (Loser goes home)
5 SUNYAC Oswego
6 MIAC St Thomas
7 NCHA St Norbert

Pool B
8 Wiac Eau-Clair
Pool C
9 Trinity
10 Geneseo State
11 Adrian

Re: NCAA Tournament Prognostications

Might be grasping at straws here, but..... How can the committee select a team that couldn't win a semi-final game in their conference tournament? I think Trinity is done, and probably Plattsburgh. Giving Geneseo and Norwich the nod in the East.

Re: NCAA Tournament Prognostications

I would have to think the West is going to send 4 teams this year; St. Norbert (auto), St. Thomas (auto), UWSP (Pool B) and Adrian (Pool C). However I feel Adrian would play against Oswego in a Quarterfinal Match in Oswego due to the 500 mile rule. I cannot see St. Norbert having to play an extra game in the 1st round being the likely overall top seed. I also think Norwich is a lock for Pool C and then my pick would be Trinity in what seemed like a stronger NESCAC than Geneseo in the SUNYAC, but only by the slimmest of margins. Either way it will be either Geneseo or Trinity for that last Pool C slot unless they scrap Adrian all together.

My Rankings for seeds:
1-St. Norbert
2-Babson
3-St. Thomas
4-Norwich
5-UWSP
6-Oswego
7-Adrian
8-Trinity
9-NESCAC Champ
10-Salem State
11-Nichols

I have St. Thomas hosting UWSP due to being their conference champ which should be rewarded with a home game, winner will play @St. Norbert in Quarters, on the same half of the bracket that winner will play the winner of Adrian @ Oswego, again rewarding the conference champion with a home game.

On the other side of the bracket I have Salem State traveling to the NESCAC Champion for the 1st round and then the winner going to Babson. Then I have Nichols traveling to Trinity for the 1st round and the winner will take a trip to Norwich which could setup a possible 4th meeting between Norwich and Babson at the National Semifinals.

Adrian was ranked #2 in the west region, ahead of everyone else out here except SNC. This is where the whole body of work must be considered not one loss.

And from those more familiar with the comparisons, it appears UWSP is more likely than UWEC.

Re: NCAA Tournament Prognostications

I can't see Norwich moving ahead of Genny since both of them made it to their championship games, and Genny was last ranked 2nd and Norwich 3rd. Trinity loosing in the semi-s does throw a twist into things now. As a Lakers fan it is really sweet not to have everyone blame the Lakers for loosing their championship game and have another team get bumped. There are plenty of other teams this year for that. It will be odd not seeing a Platty, Norwich, Middlebury, but also very interesting. The only constant is St. Norbert and very surprisingly Oswego getting in. Not that I would have guessed the Lakers would be here. Will the title once again return to the west or has the eastern teams learned anything from the last several years?
Good luck to all the teams in the tournament!!

With W. S-PT loosing in their championship game does the West get 2 C-pool bids with Adrian and W. S-PT? If so which one of Trinity, Genny, and Norwich gets the third one?? Can't wait for this years edition of Men in Black who live in a smoked filled room.

I don't think that's right. The WIAC doesn't have an automatic bid, so UWSP is in the running for the Pool B bid. Adrian would be the lone western Pool C bid, I believe.

And, it also means that UWEC isn't in the field automatically... and seems doubtful for a Pool C.

Adrian staying west doesn't necessarily give SNC an extra game. Conceivably there could be two western quarterfinal games. If so, I would think some combination of Point and Adrian at SNC and St. Thomas.

GB I know the WIAC doesn't get an AC. I think that since UWEC won the conference championship they would get the Pool B bid with UWSP in the mix for a Pool C bid.

I think UWSP wins the comparisons with UWEC. I know it wins winning percentage and head--to-head. I think UWSP wins L25%. Not sure about the RNK and SOS.

Mileage wise it would have to be Adrian @ SNC and WSP @ UST. Adrian could go to Point (496 miles), but then it would be 1 v 2 and 3 v 4. This is not softball.

Re: NCAA Tournament Prognostications

Stevens Point will get the Pool B nod. As far as the Pool C goes, don't assume anything....especially Trinity. It's a good thing for Adrian they beat Geneseo this year or they would be sweating. I would not be surprised to see Trinity out. After they demote Williams out of the rankings today, Trinity will have ZERO games against ranked opponents (unless they put in Amherst and then Trinity will be 0-2)....That was a costly loss for them yesterday.

Do you think Adrian stays #2? I guess my thought was: is it possible that Adrian drops, given the semi loss? Of course, Point has the same issue...

I think you are on to something here. If I'm on the committee and it comes down to either Geneseo or Adrian making the field, I take Adrian 10 times out of 10 on the basis of Adrian's convincing win at Geneseo this season. I personally think Adrian is a lock, but as a Geneseo fan I just hope the committee thinks better of us than Trinity, Norwich, and the rest of the pack.

never know, send them a few cigars fast to cloud up the room

Re: NCAA Tournament Prognostications

I'm feelin' UST vs. Point in a Wednesday night play-in game with the winner at SNC for a Quarterfinal matchup. No opinion on where that play-in game will be held.

As for Adrian, I'm thinking a Wednesday night play-in rematch hosting Geneseo (I think their near comeback in the SUNYAC Championship game will be enough to get them the third Pool C, and they sure looked better than Trinity yesterday) with the winner playing an Eastern team in the Quarters. Or, if Geneseo is out, playing Oswego on either Wed. or Sat. works too...
