NCAA Tournament Prognostications

Re: NCAA Tournament Prognostications

Excuse me but don't you need to factor in another team( CARDINALS),

I'm the dummy who asked the initial question which was only about Oswego, not Plattsburgh, because as SB in the 'Seo said, Plattsburgh is virtually guaranteed to remain ranked by the NCAA, while Oswego has a chance of falling out of the rankings. In hindsight it was a dumb question because if Geneseo beats Oswego it will have to be in the SUNYAC championship game which would give them an autobid. And besides, if Geneseo plays Oswego again the Lakers will have had to have beaten Plattsburgh, which should ensure they stay ranked no matter what.

Re: NCAA Tournament Prognostications

Once again the NCAA D3 Rankings page is linking to an East Region spreadsheet dated 2011. Now the West is too :( What a bush league operation.

Re: NCAA Tournament Prognostications

Here's my stab at how the East Rankings are going to look tomorrow.

1. Trinity
2. Norwich
3. Babson
4. Geneseo
5. Plattsburgh
6. Utica
7. Oswego
8. Amherst

Even though it appears Amherst and Oswego handily win comparisons against Utica, the Pioneers have continued to be ranked 6 so I'll leave them there for now even though I think they should be in the 8th spot.

As far as a bracket, who knows with all the upsets this past weekend. I'll plead the fifth until the new official NCAA rankings come out.

The NCAA? Bush league? They resemble that remark!

Re: NCAA Tournament Prognostications

Before I give my comment I just wanna say that I know the polls don't mean anything, but who's the BF that gave Norwich a first place vote?

Where do you see that Norwich has a first place vote?

Meh, not a big deal. If I had to guess, I'd say Tim Coghlin (or another coach of a top team) had a vote in this weeks poll and didn't want to vote for his own team...

Re: NCAA Tournament Prognostications

I'll throw this out early in the week in the hopes that somebody pays attention. IF , and I mean IF, Norwich loses to Babson on Saturday the criteria would support Plattsburgh being selected as a Pool C bid over Norwich. Better record, H2H and COP in Cards favor. Let's see the Committee throw out the very criteria they created. I WILL NOT give up on this argument even though somebody somewhere has already decided that Norwich is playing in this tournament.

Re: NCAA Tournament Prognostications

The ugly scenario
Trinity loses
Norwich loses
Geneseo loses

Who's on the outside looking in??

Trinity should be, but I suspect Geneseo would be on the outside looking in. Geneseo should still be behind Plattsburgh in the pecking order if they lose this weekend. For that matter, I still don't see how Norwich is ahead of Plattsburgh, but that appears to be set in stone, so it is what it is.

Again, as we eventually state every year, every team whose last game before Selection Sunday is a loss has no one to blame but themselves for being at the mercy of the smoke-filled room.

Trinity vs. Geneseo
Trinity has win% and SOS and COP, Geneseo has RNK. Both are tied in last 25%. I'd give this one to Trinity

Geneseo Vs. Norwich
Geneseo wins win%, COP, last 25% and RNK, Norwich only has SOS. I'd give that one to Geneseo.

Norwich vs. Trinity
Norwich has SOS, COP and RNK, Trinity has win% and last 25%. I'd have to give that comparison to Norwich.

It's really tough to say and would be up in the air. Personally, I woul say Trinity is in no matter what, they're ranked #1 in the East, Given the comparison between Geneseo and Norwich I'd say that Geneseo has a slight leg up, but with the current ranking's I'd say the NCAA committee would go against the numbers and give it to Norwich.

Re: NCAA Tournament Prognostications

Obviously I'm not the only one who questions Norwich's lofty NCAA rank. They lose out to a few teams when it comes down to it. But, like spwood stated, "it appears set in stone". If they win vs. Babson, great ! If they lose, join the rest of us in the deep end of the pool. I saw this happen a couple of years ago with Oswego....all hat, no cattle....when it came to the criteria.

All hat, no cattle. Like that. Got a few employees that fit that description.

Re: NCAA Tournament Prognostications

Geneseo should still be behind Plattsburgh in the pecking order if they lose this weekend.

Why should Plattsburgh be ahead of Geneseo exactly?

If Genseo loses this weekend to Oswego:

Win %- Genseo 20-6; Plattsburgh 19-5-2, that's a tie.
H2H is a tie as well.
COP - Geneseo 16-2; Plattsburgh 12-3-2
RNK - Geneseo 3-3; Plattsburgh 2-3-1
SOS - Was identical the last report that came out.
L25 - Geneseo 6-1; Plattsburgh 4-3

Only category Plattsburgh could win is SOS, and it would be by the slightest of margins. Sad thing is that you are probably right, Plattsburgh will likely be ranked ahead of Geneseo with no regard for what the numbers are, just because there is no way any Geneseo team could actually be better than a Plattsburgh team.

Geneseo should be behind Plattsburgh in the pecking order because Geneseo should be behind Plattsburgh in the pecking order. Come on, where's your head? :)

But for real, this is exactly why Geneseo must win Saturday.

You got it backward knight, the sour grapes are for eating after the last game.
