Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2012-2013, part II

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2012-2013, part II

More potential incorrect assumptions here. I have heard Jordyn Burns will move to D primarily for 2013-2014.

I have heard the same. We'll just have to see if that's where she ends up.

I like the look of that team next year. Worried about losing Brandt and maybe someone from the D (Stecklein? McMillen?) to the US National Team which would make them awfully short handed, but no reason they can't be right up there again next year.

Did I just see H. Brandt on tv sitting behind the Flyers bench eating ice cream?

Quoting myself! Looks like Brandt, Stecklein & McMillen will be the only three that the Gophers could potentially lose next year. Congrats to all three plus Bozek & Kessel (and all the other Gophers from past teams that were invited)!

Still kind of surprised that Rachel Ramsey was not invited as she has participated in USA Hockey and is on their Active Player Pool, but glad to have her definitely back next year!

This question is a little bit off the beaten track but what is the interest level of the Gophers in Jincy Dunne? Actually that seems like a dumb question because I'm sure they're interested just liike all the rest but maybe the better way to frame the question is to ask if anyone has some insight into whether there is mutual interest on her part in the Gophers?

Kessel too...as expected by all GWH fans I'm sure. Now this GWH fan merely hopes #8 doesn't go Wendell / Darwitz on us...aside from wishing her and the US squad complete success in the coming Olympiad.

As you say, I'd bet the interest in Miss Dunne is fairly widespread among D-I coaching staffs. All I've heard is her own interest is Crimson colored. Perhaps she'll see the light...;) That's tongue in cheek Crimson fans, and all others concerned.

Ahhh - you are so right. I have in my mind that it's a definite she will be on the National Team, so I keep thinking she was a senior! I hope she comes back too!

There wasn't anything in her comments after the final to suggest she wasn't planning to return. To paraphrase, she said something along the lines of it is sad to think about not playing with some of the team's seniors again. What likely didn't occur to her at the time is that she most likely won't be playing with the members of her class again either. If she makes an Olympic team and they do not and stay healthy, then Brausen, Davis, Gillanders and Terry will have graduated by 2014-15. While I think both Davis and Terry are capable of playing internationally, cracking a deep Canadian roster figures to be tough.

IMO, her situation is a little different from that of Wendell and Darwitz. Because Wendell had put off her entry into college for two years due to centralization for the 2002 Olympics, she'd had three "extra" years lumped in with her three seasons at Minnesota, so she just wanted to get on with the rest of her life. Once she left and Stephens had graduated, then the people with whom Darwitz had played with the most were gone. Kessel skated with Schoullis and Erickson a lot her first two years, but beyond those two, she's skated the most shifts with Brandt, Menefee, Bona, and Lorence, none of whom are scheduled to graduate in her absence. Life is unpredictable and a lot can change in a year and a half, but I'd expect that at this point there would be a better than even chance that #8 would be back.

Who do GWH fans like for centering the lines in 2013-2014? Scenarios considering potential variables with / without certain personnel in light they may / may not be playing college hockey next season. A couple are fairly obvious should they in fact be playing NCAA hockey rather than National Team hockey I suppose.

A topic for a new 2013-14 thread?

I was under the impression this thread would suffice for the off-season. I think that's makes some sense. I'm easily confused between multiple Gopher threads. A new thread works too.

I've got a bone to pick with some estimation...or rankings of current WCHA recruiting classes. ;)

Assuming that #8 is the only MN forward heading to Sochi, then I'd say if it isn't broken, don't fix it. Numbers 9, 10, and 22 look to be fairly good options at center. If any of them are gone as well, I'd guess that Cameranesi is a nice option. Brausen has played center. I think that Bona could as well. All of this is hard to do until at least August selections are made, because it turns into a lot of ifs.

Pick away. In 2011-12, I said the Gophers would win the WCHA season. They didn't. Last year, I said they'd finish second, and they finished first. I also said they would lose at some point. That was also wrong. So I'm just going to keep aiming low, because there is clearly something wrong with my sights.

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2012-2013, part II

Doing a little cleaning and discarding stuff accumulated over the years. Have two sets of GWH player cards from 2004-2005 season and 2005-2006 season...if anyone has an interest. Very good to perfect condition. Free to anyone who would like them.

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2012-2013, part II

If you still have a set I'll gladly take one - thanks!
