Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2012-2013, part II

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2012-2013, part II

I understand where BC is coming from. I would like to see the WCHA win mens' and women's titles every year. Unless it's the sue that has made it to the finals. Now next year it will be the same for the Women's championship but I will be pulling for the big10 in Men's hockey.

I am sort of the same with UND as well. I think I might feel the same about Michigan as I do about UND though. Never have liked them. And I think it will take a few years before I really care a lot about the conference doing well. I could see cheering for a remaining WCHA team over a Big10 team, if they were to ever meet, for the next few years.

Much as I would otherwise enjoy seeing an Eastern team win, and much as I understand cognitively that the BU players and staff shouldn't be held responsible for the behaviour of their fans, after decades of having to sit through Beanpot games with BU students in attendance my gut tells me to hope that Minny gets up 8-0 and lights their victory cigars in the first period.

On the other hand, on March 14 I wrote:

"Now, for all we know, Minny's final this year may be a cakewalk, and when the Zamboni cleans the ice after the first period you may have already started celebrating a (much deserved) feat that has never been done by anyone before. But going to overtime might just add an extra zest to the experience?"

Didn't know what a good prognosticator I was.....!

But this time, I think Minny has deserved a cakewalk for once.

Is the championship game really not televised? I am in MN and don't see it listed. Anyone know where I can watch?
It's really, really, REALLY not televised. There was an article about it in the Star Tribune on Friday. It's been a discussion point on this message board for weeks, if not months.

Sorry... I get a little testy when people ask questions that have already been answered at least twice. It's not personal. :o

A link to game coverage should be available at http://www.ncaa.com/liveschedule/2013/03/24.

OK – this is slightly off topic but I thought the Minnesota fans would appreciate it. The Boston Blades just won the CWHL championship by a score of 5-2 over the Montreal Stars. Former Gopher Jen Schoullis scored twice and Kelley Steadman (Mercyhurst) got a hat trick for the Blades.

Congrats to Minny on having such a fine season and to being the first to have the Patty Kaz Top 3 finalists on the same team. I got a chance to know Blake Kessel a little when he played at UNH and he’s a super kid from a very talented family. I look forward to cheering for Amanda, Megan, and Noora in the future as I would expect them all to make their respective Olympic teams next year.

Thanks for the link, but 1) I don't see anywhere in this thread where Sundays game being televised was discussed and (2), I am sorry if I don't read every single post in a thread where I am a casual fan and missed it.

"Dirty Area" pics from the BC semifinal game, courtesy of the Star Tribune. Who said Women's Hockey isn't physical?

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2012-2013, part II

A link to the entire semifinal from Friday is available on NCAA.com now. I watched about the second half of the game last night; same team won. There is also a highlights package of the both semis in one link. Finally got to figure out what happened on the gamewinner. Lorence got the puck out from behind the net to Brausen at the side who was tied up by two Eagles, and it slid through to Davis in the slot. She waited until the goalie had committed and was out of the play, but by that time, her angle was pretty sharp and Bolden was sliding along the goal line trying for the block. Shooting drills paid off as #9 hit the opening. On the Kortum goal, Terry did a nice job of going to the net, and when Bolden took her behind the net, another BC player got caught up with them. That left Bona free to get her own rebound and put a backhand on. Kortum was covered in front, but she got around her check and finished upstairs from her knees.

Both Kare11 and FOX 9 had good coverage yesterday from the Kaz and Friday. From what I've seen, they've been the two best local stations in terms of sending a cameraman consistently to film GWH games.

A favorite bit of the whole picture for me was that Minnesota finished the game with all six seniors on the ice.

Also nice to see Noora Raty get the tournament MVP award. And Amanda Kessel showed why she won the Kaz...now she can take some time off, heal and hopefully be 100% when she joins Team USA.
