Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2012-2013, part II

Nice articles but in the one above they goofed up the caption in the bottom picture. "Minnesota head coach Brad Frost is hugged by forward Rachael Brausen..."

P.S. Have to give credit to Bob Sansevere who really picked up his coverage of the team down the stretch.

Boy, no wonder Mercyhurst looked flat Friday...according to the article they went to OT against the Gophers.

That's a lot worse than getting Brausen's first name wrong! We all make mistakes from time to time but wow, that's a doozie!

"The Gophers' toughest games were their previous two. Friday's 3-2 overtime victory over Mercyhurst in the semifinals followed a triple-overtime win over archrival North Dakota at last week's WCHA championship."

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2012-2013, part II

OK, no more complaining about a lack of media coverage. Lo and behold, the Star Tribune's print edition put the story of the Gophers' NCAA Championship on the FRONT PAGE and included a HUGE PICTURE of the team right there with it! Anyone who likes to keep such memories and maybe even frame it might want to go out and purchase a copy of this morning's paper.

Will this thread suffice for thoughts pertaining to the eventual realization that it wasn't a dream, was in fact reality, basking in the extended warm afterglow of miraculous, historical achievement previously believed to be unobtainable and presumed unfathomable even in a moment of wildest, unrestrained, uninhibited imagination...uh...and off season stuff too? Or would a new thread be preferred?

I wish you wouldn't beat around the bush like this...don't be shy...exactly what are you trying to say?

This thread is pretty new; I think it is good enough.

If this Best Kept Secret video has been previously linked, then sorry, I missed it. It was shot in February it looks like, but it wasn't posted until last week.

Excellent video...thanks for posting.

Great line by Frost...We want to recruit smart hockey players...there are some very fast players who just go to the wrong place faster...we don't want players like that!

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2012-2013, part II

Nope! We had a little debate on the All-USCHO teams that will be announced Friday, and a major one on the Player of the Year, which led us to the conclusion that we had to name Co-Players of the Year.

So, now that the season is over and you guys don't have to worry about letting any cats out of any bags to the potential advantage of any opponent, was Kessel's hip surgery a hockey related injury?

It was to upgrade her bionics.

I thought that has been discussed for a few months now? Anyway, she has said in interviews that at some point toward the end of last season she felt something pop in her hip. So I don't know if there was ever a time when she'd hurt it outside of hockey, but yes, I'd say it was definitely hockey related. As far as I know, all of her injuries this season were hockey related. When she went into the boards in Mankato in the second series in January, I thought that would be the end of her season and would vastly change Minnesota's prospects. When she got up and didn't want to leave the ice (the refs made her because they'd blown the whistle for her), it told me just how tough she is. Then when she was just getting back to something close to normal from that, she got hurt again and knocked out of the lineup. The fact that she played through all of the injuries she did and gutted out a six-period game in essentially her second game back reinforced what a gamer she is.

Maybe so, but not that I'm aware of. All I know is that a couple of weeks ago I asked what the nature of her injury(ies) was/were and although you and D2D responded neither one of you gave me a straight answer so I filed it under "excessive precaution borne out of fear of competitive espionage" should the information that you otherwise may have given fall into the wrong hands.

Thanks for the info.

This post will self destruct in 30 seconds.

And that's true. But the original injury, the hip that was operated on last summer, has been much less of an issue. The exact nature of recent injuries was discussed far less while games against the Whioux were still pending.

Was there any thought given to spreading this honor a bit further and naming the "Tri-Players of the Year"? The more I watched Megan Bozek over her college career, the more I came to appreciate her tremendous ability and what she meant to the Gophers, especially this past season. It's a shame they don't give a separate award to the nation's best defenseman, because she would be the most deserving.

Best of luck to her when she moves on to represent the U.S.A. in the Worlds and then in the Olympics.
