Hockey East Quarterfinals: #6 UNH @ #3 BU

Re: Hockey East Quarterfinals: #6 UNH @ #3 BU

Really good move by Lowell to keep all the dorms open even with spring break started. I know it costs money and all the things that go with it, but I think more schools should look at doing this (not sure if other's do, to be fair).

I haven't heard of a school doing this, so definitely a great move by UML. Hopefully other schools will catch on, but I doubt it. BU didn't do it last year when the men's basketball team was playing at noon on ESPN for the NCAA tournament, so I can't imagine they'd do it for this too.

Re: Hockey East Quarterfinals: #6 UNH @ #3 BU

UNH does not take two out of three in this series. They have not been able to string two wins together most of the season. Moreover , they have had an abysmal record against decent teams. Any team that has a 0.500 record took them out. UNH relies too much on one line to get the job done. I like this Desmith kid, so maybe they can build around here in the future. I think UNH losing key recruits has finally caught up with them; Gudreau, Lelegglia, and White might have given UNH a fighting chance to score more goals this year ( mind the mis spellings). As for this year, the team lacks any type of finishing ability but much to their credit, they have kept many of these games close. If UNH manages to take this to 3 games and keep them close, I'd be happy given how the year has gone.

Will be in boston for both of these tilts. Hopefully they show them on TV so win or lose, i can still booze :D

Yeah, it costs money. Plus, I don't see non-Boston residents changing their travel schedule last minute... Or those going away for spring break.

BC doesn't kick students out for vacations except for the month long Christmas break.

Public vs. private would be a criteria for this decision I guess. If public funds are being used so kids can stay on campus to watch a hockey game I would guess somebody is going to scratch their head, especially as states are cutting university funding left and right...private universities can justify things like that and/or sending the band on a bowl trip a little more easily.

At BU, they could spend the money with fewer questions asked but how do they justify keeping multiple giant dorms open in and urban setting so a hundred kids can attend a basketball/hockey game?

Interesting question for the administration of any school.

Re: Hockey East Quarterfinals: #6 UNH @ #3 BU

I'd say BU, and hence that's why the pressure is on them. I hope UNH has fun and stays loose. It may be harder for BU to do that.

I'd reject the notion that it puts any extra pressure for them to win these games. Ultimately, BU will be in regardless, while UNH has to win or their season is over.

Don't count UNH out -- I'm not. I expect we will come to play, and I hope that we win. If we play well and lose to a better team, c'est la vie. And I would reject the implication that the players expect to lose the series -- play hard, score some goals, see what happens.

I expect UNH will give BU a tough time, actually. These quarterfinals never seem to be easy for BU, even if they ultimately come out on top.

Yeah, take not of the word "if," as chickod did. What was implied was that both teams will come in with the expectation that they're going to win the series. They have to. That's the real pressure of expectations, and it should be on both sides.

Re: Hockey East Quarterfinals: #6 UNH @ #3 BU

Regarding pressure, I merely stated that (in my opinion,) UNH has no pressure on them, unlike the past 15 years, when we had home ice. BU has the pressure. And if the situation were reversed -- that is to say, UNH hosted BU, I would state that the pressure were greater on UNH. Hey, that's just me and my opinion. Disagree if you'd like, that's fine.

You're forgetting that the BU players show up drunk to playoff games, and will be unaware of who they are playing against, let alone any pressure.

So it is on NESN at 4pm?

As a guy that once got the Hooters in San Juan to put on the NCAA hockey finals while I waited for my ride to the airport, I relish the challenge of finding a place in suburban VA (soccer tournament) that will play the game during bball conference tournament time.

many years ago i was in san diego at a conference and broke out early on a friday to play torrey pines. afterward i went to a bar in la jolla and had them put on a bu-uhn game (may have been season opener) on nesn. they kept telling me they couldn't find it - but they had directv (sunday ticket signs!! why i picked this bar ;) ) and i stood there until they hit the buttons and got it. then i sat down and watched and heard multiple *****ing. one group sat down at a table near me during commercial and ordered... when the game came back on it was 'waitress!!! what is this?!?!'. too funny. course then bu lost to uhn 3-0 or something...

Re: Hockey East Quarterfinals: #6 UNH @ #3 BU

Must be a tough for some people live life completely divorced from hockey. I'd have trouble getting up in the morning without it. Heck, I play golf every weekend in the summer with 2 guys who live for it. Nothing like walking down the fairway on a 90 degree summer day talking hockey.

Sooo heading down Saturday with my 7 year old. Which is the Green line stop for Agganis?

Actually, UNH has to win 2 this weekend, and 2 next weekend, or the season is over. While possible, it's highly unlikely. I'm sure that BU, on the other hand, would hate to lose this weekend and not play in the Gahden, waiting around while other NCAA seeds play.

Anyway, I've argued this point long enough, and I'm done.

It's interesting, though -- virtually no trash talking in this thread (not that I'm a trash talker.) Seems both fan bases are wary...I am sure looking forward to the series, win or lose for the 'Cats, and it would admittedly be good to avenge those 3 losses to BU this season -- but I expect BU to hold serve, in 3.

Actually in 2006 BU beat Umass in 2 games
Winning both games 4-1
Hopefully this weekend is the 2nd time they are able to sweep at Agganis in the playoffs
