Hockey East Quarterfinals: #6 UNH @ #3 BU

Re: Hockey East Quarterfinals: #6 UNH @ #3 BU

hmmm. now that's a stretch ;)
Good answer ;)

(I must admit that as I wrote my post, I expected someone from BU to respond and essentially make such a point, when it's clear that the real victims are the women.)

Re: Hockey East Quarterfinals: #6 UNH @ #3 BU

Agree that this is the best matchup of the four QF series. This should be a shoo-in for the NESN game on Saturday and something tells me that this could go to an OT Game 3.

I would be partially surprised if either of the teams swept.

Re: Hockey East Quarterfinals: #6 UNH @ #3 BU

My Agganis Arena Account Manager site/page/whatever shows:

Friday 7pm
Saturday 4pm
Sunday 4pm (if necessary, which, come on, we ALL know it will be)

I did hear that we might have gone Thursday/Friday/Sunday because of Women's Basketball. Are they hosting again? If so, that game will be 7pm and I guess they don't want to conflict with that game? Or will NESN be doing a 4pm telecast and that's this game 2?

Re: Hockey East Quarterfinals: #6 UNH @ #3 BU

First, I do love the fact that you are a "neutral fan of this series" -- it points out that there are a lot of fans of the Game of College Hockey, not just fans of their own teams.

That said, the way that these playoff rounds are set up, the top 4 teams earn the right to play the bottom 4 teams, on their own home ice, with seeding preference given to the #1 team and on down. The system thus favors the home team, the higher seed. Wouldn't you agree that there is usually a greater expectation for those teams to win 2 out of 3 games? I would -- and if the venue isn't reason enough, then the fact that the higher seed has the better record over 27 games should be.

Regarding pressure, I merely stated that (in my opinion,) UNH has no pressure on them, unlike the past 15 years, when we had home ice. BU has the pressure. And if the situation were reversed -- that is to say, UNH hosted BU, I would state that the pressure were greater on UNH. Hey, that's just me and my opinion. Disagree if you'd like, that's fine.

I said nothing at all about the fact that BU has lost 3 players this season, 2 of whom are in the maw of the judicial system. (I figured a BU fan, and I understand that you are not one, would bring it up in a "woe is me" fashion.) I would think that the team would want to prove that they can win even despite the shame and loss of key players, which again places pressure on them.

Yes, I am a fan. Such a fan that I will be in attendance on Saturday. Lowell will not be playing Saturday, as the Schedule is Thurs, Fri and (if needed) Sun. Looking forward to attending the best QF series.

And I understand your your view point that the home team has pressure, heck my team has a ton of pressure as they are the home team. However, I just see it differently for this BU team - as the adversity they had to deal with makes them stronger. I guess that's where we differ.

Again good luck to both.

Women's team lost, that's not relevant anymore.

Why 4PM? Why? Oh well, good thing I didn't commit to buying the tickets with the season tix!

Re: Hockey East Quarterfinals: #6 UNH @ #3 BU

Q: How do you reduce attendance to the quarterfinals?

A: make it a matinee and put it on local TV!

Re: Hockey East Quarterfinals: #6 UNH @ #3 BU

Can we request to play this series on the road?
We play better that way.

Re: Hockey East Quarterfinals: #6 UNH @ #3 BU

I heard on the ME-UNH telecast today that UNH was an away team 14 years ago.
16 years ago, first season of the Whittemore Center, last time UNH finished under .500 and went to Maine for the quarters and they had by far the longest stretch of home ice in the Hockey East quarters snapped this year...They have the 2nd longest active streak of years making the NCAA's behind Michigan, which will be snapped if they don't run the table in the HE tourney. (they're also, strangely, the only team to win an NCAA game the last 3 seasons.... only one game unfortunately)

Re: Hockey East Quarterfinals: #6 UNH @ #3 BU

I don't think it can be seen as an easy BU sweep mainly because of the play of BU at Agannis lately. They have been lights out on the road (with the exception of the NU game) and only so-so at home. I do, however, only think BU loses the series if DeSmith steals 2 games.

Wrong...NBC Friday Night Ice (or whatever they call it now) is featuring BC/UMass on their Friday telecast, which will be at 7:30. BU is on Saturday at 4:00 on NESN. Lowell starts Thursday night due to a scheduling conflict at Tsongas.

Re: Hockey East Quarterfinals: #6 UNH @ #3 BU

And which team has the greater burden to meet its expectations of success?

But he just said, don't change the word to "expectations."

And I would reject the implication that the players expect to lose the series -- play hard, score some goals, see what happens.

I don't think anybody said that...this is a FAN forum and we're talking about OUR perspective on the series...if the PLAYERS "expect" to lose, they shouldn't be playing...

Fun fact...BU's record at home: 8 -7
BU's record on the road/neutral: 13-5-1

Usually spring break as well (can someone confirm that?). Not much enthusiasm in the arena this year. If it IS an advantage, it's not much of one. Although I'm HOPING that because there is a, how shall I say this, "higher profile" opponent and because they will probably bring a LOT of fans, it will spur the BU fans on to greater heights (like maybe they will actually yell and/or cheer - not that I want to ask too much of them...

No, they lost as well. The only team that won was Women's hockey, which, by the way, was a great game.
