Hockey East Quarterfinals: #6 UNH @ #3 BU

Re: Hockey East Quarterfinals: #6 UNH @ #3 BU

If it was football it would be 52-51 UNH

Anybody at that game in 1994 can attest that it was one of the toughest losses ever.

If anybody can find video of the missed PAT that lost us the 1994 game I'd like to see it again. As I recall, our kicker had made something like 100 PATs in a row and the tying PAT in multi-OT got blocked. As the UNH fans stormed the field a BU player picked up the ball and ran towards the endzone. BU was claiming he scored and they won the game, the refs had no idea what happened.

UNH has not won a hockey NC because of this transgression against the Terriers. Since BU doesn't have football, there will be no way for that score to be settled, therefore, UNH will never win the hockey NC. Sorry, but that is the way it has to be.

I will check with Doug to see if he knows where to find one (he did the play by play)...I know he got me the video that he produced of the year we went to the 1-AA National Championship (with Robert Daugherty at quarterback).

Edit: By the way, Tony Sparano (former Dolphins coach) was a coach on that team...

You should consider a career in fiction novels... :D

We didn't go the national championship game that year. Those dreams were dashed in an airplane hangar in Idaho. Had they won THAT game, they would have played for the title.

The 1993 video is on youtube, great view of the penalty against UNI that gave BU the second chance in OT. I remember calling T's pub during the next game to be told it was 21-0 with roughly a minute to go. BU then scored a TD, recovered the onside kick, scored another TD but then didn't get the next onside kick to lose 21-14.

IIRC it was our backup QB that threw for 2 td's.

Yes, you're right. Freudian slip (but they almost came back from the dead to tie it).

A win in Idaho would have put them in the semi-finals (The "Field Four" if you will. :) ) A 14-0 team should have been playing at home, not in an airplane hangar in Idaho. *sigh*

I was standing in Alfond Arena when Scarlet informed me that BU had beaten JMU 24-21 to finish that season 13-0. Of course BC beat #1 Notre Dame that day (Tom Coughlin, HC) which completely obliterated any chance BU had of getting some strong local coverage.

That 94 UNH game was off the hook. I can still see the blocked PAT and the mad rush of fans onto the field.

Re: Hockey East Quarterfinals: #6 UNH @ #3 BU

Very disappointing...not to be a fair weather fan, but hard to see this team going anywhere after this game tonight. Not the fact that they lost, but the ice was tilted. The ENTIRE game was played in the BU end - they were thoroughly outplayed by a team that was three games below .500 in the league. This series notwithstanding, the rest of the playoffs are one and done and this team does just not play at a high enough level consistently to run the table. There was no time and distance and they seemed to be rushing all the time. Not good composure tonight.

Wow... where did that game come from?? Well done, Cats! Let's keep it going!

Re: Hockey East Quarterfinals: #6 UNH @ #3 BU

BU needs to find a way out of their zone. UNH's hard forecheck did it's job tonight. That high two man forecheck looks really scary, and similar to what BC employs. Also, far too many passes right into legs or right onto the sticks of UNH players. Millan, despite giving up a softie, was the only one who kept em in it tonight. Can't have that happen again. Boys got their work cut out for em.

And on another note, I hate this 4pm start. Probably gonna miss a whole period due to work.

Re: Hockey East Quarterfinals: #6 UNH @ #3 BU

It may be wishful thinking on my part, but I'd bet that the fatigue factor from last night's lengthy game, combined with today's 4 p.m. start, will have less of an effect on UNH (because of their hard work paid off with the victory) than it will on BU. And BU knows it has to increase the effort, in order to play again tomorrow at 5 p.m.

That said, UNH has to keep its foot on the pedal (and put more shots on goal, rather than over or beside the goal. Especially Moses.)
