Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

Re: Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

Playing devil's advocate:

I didn't see *this*. Right now, the Red Sox are Josh Beckett and Dustin Pedroia and (once in a while) Jason Varitek. Almost nobody is doing what they're supposed to be doing. Not just the guys that Theo brought in, but the guys that Boston would need to perform, regardless.

Lackey's got a 5.63 ERA. Wake is over 5.00. Lester is over 8.00. Buchholz is 1.80 only because he got bailed out by a bunch of runs going "unearned." Ellsbury's hurt. Youkilis isn't hitting. Martinez isn't hitting. Drew is invisible, except when he's misplaying balls in the OF.

Cameron isn't doing much, but Scutaro (.289) and Beltre (.295) aren't doing that badly.

Basically, this is close to a worst-case scenario. It will get better.

You have to admit, the way this team is assembled, it has prevented runs from being scored. Unfortunately, it's prevented Red Sox runs...

Things will turn around. Be patient, Boston - there's a lot of baseball left.

Bases loaded, nobody out and David Ortiz isn't up! :D

But J.D. Drew is :(

Oops. I owe an apology. Drew with the grand slam, to give Boston the 5-4 lead.

Re: Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

Well, blown calls at home plate I guess technically count as "run prevention". ;) :p

Re: Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

For Boston folks with Comcast - what channel is NESN Plus?

Re: Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

Just think how badly the Rangers would be beating the Sox had the front office not committed themselves to "run prevention" this off-season.

Youk is the Satan of baseball.
Or Satan is the Youk of hockey.

Re: Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

Nice job by Youk to win it, but it was set up by Scutaro's incredible hustle on the SAC fly.
