Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

Re: Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

Bottom of the 11th. Bases loaded, nobody out. How will the Red Sox fail to win this, right now?
Well . . . Papi's up :D

eta

Weak ground ball, force out at home. Now a DP kills the inning. And Beltre serves one up. Un Real.
Dead in the clutch. Though on the plus side, Bard was positively filthy.

This is pathetic.

Yet sadly, not a surprise.

I would have been shocked if they did well... I'm not interested at all with this team... The most boring 180mm team in history...

Thankfully, the NHL playoffs are here. And they don't suck.

I won't kid myself. I'm never going to shake free of whatever hold the Red Sox have on me. They may win three in a row at any time, and I'll be powerless to stay away.

But at least as long as the NHL is going, I have distractions. I just hope the Sox have extricated their collective head from their backside by the time someone raises the Stanley Cup.

Re: Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

I thought Lackey might change this team's luck. I thought wrong.

I'm tired of bashing Papi, so here's a list of fairly useless (so far) Red Sox not named David Ortiz.

Hall: 0 for 2010. CF not treating him well, defensively.
Drew: .132BA, 2RBI. Has managed to hit 1 HR - apparently by accident. Usually solid defense has been ordinary.
Hermida: .200BA, shaky defense, has managed 6RBI. Marlin fans were right. He isn't a can't-miss prospect. Missing seems to be his main talent, in fact.
VMart: sitting at .220, he's more Varitek than Varitek. By far.
Youkilis: Greek God of .233 batting averages.

Well, on the bright side, my opponent in fantasy baseball started Lackey :p

Re: Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

This season remind anyone of 2006???

The main difference is that they managed to have their collapse in April and not August.

2006 was dreadful. This just pitiful.
I have to laugh at hardcore Sox fans who refuse to follow the Celtics and Bruins. Because even thought neither team is making it out of the first round, they aren't putting forth this kind of effort.

Re: Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

I'm listening to this in my office and it just sounds painful.

Re: Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

I'm going to break my **** to get tickets to Fenway this year, that's for **** sure.

Re: Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

Here's the comeback! :p

Re: Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

Sox are at least consistent...

10th in ERA, defense, and offense.

Thanks for assembling this pile of crap, Theo. Maybe now he won't be so condescending and pretentious when people question his moves.

The Red Sox are the PC Friars of the American League.

Remember last year when the Sox were off to a hot start and the Yanquis were not? It does not look good now, but let's see what we/they look like around July 4.

First place only counts on one day of the season.

I know. Wait til Alex Rodriguez and his 30 HR/100 RBI steps back into our 4 hole after his hip surgery, and Mark Teixeira stops hitting his usual .150 in April and gets his first homer. Then we'll start sailing. (Oh, you mean we're waiting for Mike Cameron and Jacoby Ellsbury, instead?)

The difference is the Yankees bought quality, while Theo was showing how smart he is playing with his computer and shopping in at the dollar store?

But at least we have that farm system which should spit out another 4th outfielder like Kalish in the near future, while the Yanks' farm system is laughable, only kicking out Jesus Montero.

Re: Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

Anyone else think that with each 8-2 loss, the pricetag for someone like Adrian Gonzalez gets a little bit steeper?

Not that that deal will happen anyway, but it's never fun to deal from a position of weakness.

Re: Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

The fact we have the 2nd highest payroll with this "talent" level is a direct indictment of Theo. How good a GM can he be if every average fan saw these concerns well before the season started? I'm not just saying this now, but I've always felt he's overrated as a GM. Yes, we've seen two WS titles, but you should be able to win with that payroll.
