Yeah in the last 15 years eastern teams have now won 8 times..so I really don't see the Big 10 or Western conferences as dominant blue bloods as you indicate. Their is parity in college hockey and the advent of the transfer portal and the build up of non traditional programs without a rich, long history like UMass, and QU will only continue. It's anybody's ballgame today
Ever heard of the NHL???
Wow, some of you people are just SO naive.
Minnesota and Wisconsin and Michigan are all Top 5 in producing NHL players, and NHL point producers. They might all be Top 4? North Dakota is in there.
Michigan St is also Top 8 in this regard.
PSU, OSU and Notre Dame are climbing fast.
Couldn't imagine how you'd all feel if your players left after 1 or 2 seasons? Your heads would blow up, because you all seem to need players to hang around for 5 years.
And then you claim the B1G isn't so special, see, they didn't win the title. lol
The likes of UMass and QU don't hardly rank at all. That might change for Q now, and I hope it does, they deserve it, 3 title games now, or is it four now? And finally a Title. It probably changed for UMD, and now they didn't even make the NCAA tourney? How did they fall so hard? Couldn't be because the NHL noticed them winning back to back titles??? No way. The NHL doesn't care about college hockey, right?
Same way UMn fell after back to back titles? Same way Denver fell after Back to Back Titles? Same way UND fell for awhile after 2 titles in 4 years? Same way Michigan fall after 2 titles in 3 years? Same way BC fell hard after 3 titles in 5 years. It's a pretty predictable cycle, actually.
Those non-blue bloods you speak of, they take turns, winning one and usually only one title at a time, then disappear back into obscurity. Yale, winner of a Natl Title in 2013, was ranked #54 this year, Providence, winner of a title in 2015, wasn't even Top 20 this year, Union, winner of a Natl title in 2014, ranked #43 this year. When was the last time 2012 runner up Ferris St got talked about? Same with Mass-Lowell? And UMass, winner of the 2021 Title, has been irrelevant ever since. They barely snuck into the Top half of programs this year at #29.
Programs like Quinipiac and UMD figured out a way to not disappear into obscurity and good for them. I went to UMD, so I liked seeing them thrive. A good friend of mine is a big time Q fan, so I'm very happy for him. We've been talking for several years, and UMn always ended up better and I also felt badly for him, so his team getting the better of mine is pretty cool, actually. I can't wait to congratulate him.
Like men's cbb this year, it was fun to see the Final Four dominated by non-blue bloods, and won by a team only recently given blue blood status. In 1998, I remember defending a UConn fan from abuse some Cinncinnati bb fan was giving him. He got the last laugh, several times now.
People have laughed at UMn lately, but none of them made the Title game this year, as Q fans are some of the best, classiest fans I've ever encountered, and none said anything crossing the line about Minnesota. One did say Q's defense was "Far and away" better than Minnesota's, which I found hilarious knowing who Q played this year compared to who UMn played. But outside of that, nothing but coolness and respect.
One team has NEVER a conference made. That is true so often in so many sports, and it's such an obvious point that can be too often made. But still simple minded people love to point to the conf the winning team is from as the best conf. Interviewers continue to go out and interview Americans and prove everyday that Americans are not very smart.
